    This book offers a detailed look at the causes and cures for the acne sufferers. The program he recommended is easy enough to follow on a daily basis. He doesn’t recommend any of his products but we have to search for ourselves.

    I think the author doesn’t want any conflict of economical interests to offer his product line but spread the true science of curing the acne itself. It took me a long time to search and locate all the products he recommended in this book, but I have gained more knowledge in the process. I have found the acnerx kit from a company that offers all products this author recommends.

    I like the author’ acne cure program and I highly recommend all acne suffers to buy the book and follow his program. It’s a good book. You won’t regret it.

    The Clear Skin Diet is a much better book and will work for everyone. Without the “24 hour” hype, the Clear Skin Diet is based on mountains of evidence that show the real reason you have acne. It’s not because you’re not using Salicytic Acid, though even in the Clear Skin Diet book that is suggested. Why was acne practically nonexistent in the Japanese 50 years ago? Now the Japanese, now that they have adopted a Westernized diet, have acne at the SAME rate as Americans. The largest study on acne ever conducted was the introduction of the Western diet, with dairy and saturated fats, high sugar and little fish, into the Japanese culture, and watching what happened to their skin in only 20 years. The same thing happened to the Eskimos when they adopted our diet.

    You’ve got to see acne for what it is. A chronic inflammation problem. Nutritionists KNOW what causes inflammation and what prevents it.

    Book was in good shape. So far the treatment seems to be working, but it may be too early to tell. Lot’s of good helpful information. My teenager is reading the book herself and applying the treatment, however I had to get one of the ingredients from a local compounding pharmacy with a prescription.

  4. I Didn’t Believe Anybody Could Help Me

    When I first saw this book at the library, I thought, “Yeah, but not for me.” I struggled with acne as a pre-teen (12) and tried everything my pediatrician told me. Only “growing up” helped me. I got it back at age 40, so bad I wouldnt let my boyfriend see me in regular light (he said he didn’t care, but…). I checked the book out and by the second chapter, I went online and purchased the book for myself. I had to have it and I still swear by it. (His comment about “feeling your face every morning before getting out of bed” really hit me. I thought I was the only person that did that!)

    He suggests 95% of the cases can be virtually cured. I thought surely I was in the 5%. Within TWO DAYS I saw improvement! Within two weeks, when I saw my family doctor for a general appointment, she didn’t understand why I was concerned about my now minimal acne, but recommended a dermatologist. By the time of my appointment with the derm., about six weeks into the program, I had no acne to show him. But he was happy to prescribe a $100 face wash. Forget it–I didn’t buy it.

    Yes, it takes time every day. If you were in my position, and apparently many are, it’s worth it. In my case, after I was acne-free, I didn’t need to follow it daily. I found the amounts recommended most helpful…”twice the active ingredient” does not necessarily mean it will help twice as good. This was helpful news.

    This book worked for me! One note, however, in my state (IN), you can’t get one of the components, glycolic acid, without a prescription. I got one from my family doc. She, thought his plan made sense. But I had to go to the hospital pharmacy because no local pharm had anything close, even with a script. It turned out I didn’t need it, but it was very inexpensive (about $20)for a prescription med. The important thing is to identify what kind of acne you have. I had two types but not all three, which is why I didn’t need the glycolic acid. That’s the trick and it explained why treatments as a child didn’t help–my pediatrician was only treating one. This book was a godsend for me! I still get an occasional small breakout, but the “plan” sets me back on track.

  5. Confusing Yet Easily Adaptable

    I have been cursed with oily skin and been battling acne since my teens. I don’t have the kind of acne you’d see in those “before” photos in Proactiv pamphlets, but I did hate waking up to discover a giant whitehead or a red lump on my face. I had tried a number of remedies over the years before finding this book at my local library. The information itself is a little bit too in-depth, as other reviewers have noted, though it can be easily condensed and adapted without a chemistry degree.

    My program, adapted from the routine contained in the book, is:

    Wash with Neutrogena Rapid Clear oil eliminating foaming cleanser.

    Wipe face with a Neutrogena Rapid Clear salicylic acid pad, allow face to dry.

    Wipe face with Neutrogena Pore Refining toner.

    Apply a thin layer of Zapzyt benzoyl peroxide gel.

    The salicylic acid pad may not even be necessary, I’ve only begun using them as they were on sale at my local grocery and I thought, Why not?

    This regimen has cleared up my face considerably. I am still waiting to eliminate the blackheads that have formed on my nose, hoping that this routine helps.

    I am 22 years old and I thought I had cured my acne by taking accutane years ago when I was 16. My acne reappeared 3 years later not as worse but still bad and I started taking accutane for the second time which I don’t recommend to anybody unless your acne is Severe severe or cannot be cured by this program which is a small chance. My acne surprisingly reappeared once again. So as you can imagine my acne is not that severe but is very persistant. This program is working very well so far.

    This program works as long as you follow it to the letter and if you buy the right acid concentrations, including the key steps that are the sun block of 15 or higher and the ice

    The last step of that program tells you to use the ice packs and bp gel, and then leave the rest of bp gel on your face for the rest of the night, but how do you do if you wanna go out at night? well, what I did and has worked so far is to run the ice cubes over my face and then put your ice pack but do not put bp gel just to get rid of those inflammations. Do not do this all the time, though, since your bp is what kills the bacteria, you dont wanna go out all the time haha just every once in a while or every weekend. It is worthy to say no sometimes. Remember it only takes 6 weeks so do the sacrifice. Another and I think the most important thing is,you know, as this doctor explains that there are several types of acne. well, mine I think is psychological since I keep squeezing even though I know it worsens my acne. I hate those white heads but, indeed, what I am doing is prolonguing my situation, so extremely important that you don’t touch your face at all. Don’t get weak and start squeezing. they will go away and leaving a markless face if you follow the program.

    I’ve been doing so for 2 weeks and my face has gotten way better. It looks different, it looks healthy.

    ok. morning: wash affected area with salycylic acid soap or apply salycylic liquid + drop of water. wash with warm water. apply an SPF moisturizer. night: wash with salycyclic acid soap. ice the affected area until it becomes cool to the touch. immediately afterwards, apply cold benzoil peroxide gel. immediately afterwards, apply ice bag and keep the skin cold for about 15 minutes. let the remaining BP work overnight. why the long instructions? jeez.

    What drives me a little batty about the acne cure is it’s not really a cure. You’re just using a system to treat your acne. You can’t cure acne by treating the outside, your skin, because acne has nothing to do with your skin. Oil, dead skin, bacteria, sure they skin problems and when you get a clogged pore, you get pimples.

    But what’s causing the oil, dead skin and bacteria in the first place? That’s the problem that this book doesn’t address. A real cure means you take care of the real problems once and they go away forever. You can in fact cure acne but if you follow along with this book, you’ll just keep treating yourself for the rest of your life.

    Why not deal with the real problems inside of you and get rid of acne once and for all instead of following regimen after regimen?

    Good book for learning about acne and a logical plan for “curing” it.

    I’m at the mid-way point of the 6 week plan, and overall, have seen great improvement, though, not a cure yet. As a 34 year old woman, I’m gearing up to deal with wrinkles, and combatting the acne I’ve had since the aget of 15 is just getting exhausting and ridiculous. I appreciate the upfront education on skin care and acne–after asking several dermatologists about the bumps under my skin and gettting no answers, it’s refreshing to have this addressed in this book. I applaud Mr. Dubrow’s rather rare decision not to create his own skin care line to promote with the book. All products were easy to find in a mid-sized city.

    At the end of week three, I’ve experienced great improvement in my skin’s clarity and glow. I am still experiencing a few break-outs, but they clear up quite quickly. When I started the program, I was sure that I’d experience terrible dryness as the combinations of all of these chemicals seemed that it would be harsh on the skin. But to my surprise, I’ve been amazed to find that I can actually wear a solution of Benzyol Perioxide to bed with no moisturizer and my skin looks good in the morning after my Salicylic Acid treatment. I must admit that I skip the Glycolic Acid if my skin feels tight, but I find my skin is adjusting to this. Be sure to buy quality sunscreen and wear it, as you will notice your skin is smoother, but also thinner. One tip: I found that the program seems to work better if I am generous with the amount of each chemical I use and mix it well with an equal amount of water to apply it like a medium thick masque. My working theory is the water helps to carry the chemicals into the skin (I dry my face after rinsing between products). Don’t be stingy, if you are going to try this, do it right, so you know if it will work for you. My products:

    AM:

    Neutrogena Rapid Clear(tm) Acne Defense Face Lotion 2% Salicylic Acid

    Peter Thomas Roth 10% Glycolic Acid Clarifying Gel

    (my personal wrinkle-prevention hydrating regime: Skinceuticals Feric C+E serum, B5 gel, and moisturizer; followed with Obagi sunscreen 35 SPF)

    PM:

    Neutrogena Rapid Clear(tm) Acne Defense Face Lotion 2% Salicylic Acid

    Zapzyt 10% Benzyol Perioxide Gel + ice

    Leave on BP Gel overnight

    One other note: be sure to use a good eye moisturizer as this skin is the thinnest, and I’ve found that, although I avoid my eye area, I need to be quite viligent not to end up with a dry, puffy eye area. I have hopes that another 3-4 weeks on the program may actually clear up the bumps under my skin and my acne. I’m seeing enough progress to be optimistic.

    Lost one star due to the book’s instructions, which are not well organized. I thank the other poster who spelled out the AM & PM routine here on Amazon. If Mr. Dubrow re-issues this book, I hope he clarifies his plan and does some randomized studies to bring more validity to the science behind his assertions.

    I am 52 year old female and have suffered from pimples and acne since I was 17. I have always had ridiculously oily skin to boot. I have tried drugstore cleansers, dept. store cleansers, Proactive, Murad and Rx items. Last year I spent over $4000 getting a series of micro peels, micro dermabrasion and levulan treatments at a respected dermatologist’s office. This past January I developed huge cystic acne over my entire forehead from the bridge of my nose upward – even in my eyebrows, which I attribute to perimenopause and changing hormones. It was horrible, all I can say is thank God for bangs. It was depressing, I wanted to hide. Nothing worked, not even my faithful Zeno Zit Zapper put a dent in these things. I found “The Acne Cure” on Amazon and ordered it in early April, after reading the reviews and how it had helped many others. Two months after starting my new routine, my acne is gone and I barely get a pimple anymore. There are still a few blackheads here and there, but even they are diminished and not seen unless magnified. My skin is so clear I am not afraid to go out without makeup!

    I already had several salicylic acid washes on hand, so I ordered 10% Glycolic Cleanser ($26.95/9oz) and 5% Benzoyl Peroxide lotion ($17.95/2 oz) from platinumskincare.com. I washed my face twice a day using the Neutrogena oil free acne wash for 2 minutes, rinsing, then using the glycolic cleanser for 2 minutes. I also used a cotton ball and toner, before my skin was totally dry, to help wipe off dead skin. I also put on the benzoyl peroxide lotion on after chilling my skin before bedtime only. I noticed some improvement after 2 days. After about 6 weeks I seemed to develop little whiteheads, so I cut back on the routine, using a non acid based skin wash in the morning, but keeping the 2 cleanser routine at night. Little whiteheads were gone in 2 days, never to return. I only use the benzoyl peroxide as a spot treatment, as needed now, as well.

    Not only is my skin clear, I still occasionally get a pimple or 2, but they are small and go away quickly, but my skin is not oily anymore either! Another plus is that I had a couple of long time companions on my face that looked like little warts almost. One on the side of my nose and a couple in the middle of my forehead. They had been there for over 15 years. First the ones on my forehead peeled off, layer by layer and 2 weeks ago, the one on the side of my nose did the same thing. There’s a little discoloration mark there, but it is flat, no scarring involved for either of these areas. Also with this routine, I notice a softening of the acne scars I have had for years so I assume it will only improve more over time.

    How I wish I had had this information years ago, but I am thankful I finally found “The Acne Cure”. Thank you Dr Dubrow and Brenda Adderly for putting out such great and simple information that really works!

    This book lets you know how to take care of your skin at any age. It tells you what products to use and that they dont have to be expensive but can be bought at any drug store. I had this book before and lost it in a move and had to reorder it when i started breaking out again. As soon as i started up the regimen my skin cleared up a lot and after a few days.. no more acne. I have tried everything but this book shows you what will work for different kinds of acne. Thank you Dr Dubrow. I no longer have to be embarrassed by outbreaks and that is a beautiful thing!

    I’m at week 7, still suffering from some hormonal pustules so this book wasn’t a cure.However my skin and acne did improve for the better. I’ve seen 5 dermatologists, tried a lot of prescriptions, pills and just didn’t want to go that route anymore. This is worth it for someone who will be committed to the program(follow it religiously for 6 weeks and not skip nights), give it an honest shot (not quit in week 3 if they have a few pimples forming still), and wants to avoid taking pills. I feel that I’ve learned some great pimple fighting techniques that I will incorporate into my skincare routine for life. But it is still too early to tell whether the cure has ultimately changed my skin for life.

    As a sidenote, this book gives a good outline of acne and about attacking the source. The recommended products are actually the same ones dermatologists have had me using too, except it’s all about how you apply them–NOT just using them. And, I think that is where the strength lies in this book. It’s worth a shot.

  13. Good skincare information, but not a cure for acne.

    I am on week 6 of the program outlined in the book, and have seen minimal results. I have followed the steps exactly as outline in the book, and have used the products described. I have mild acne, so I dont see how I could be in the 5% of people this supposedly does not work for. I have less inflammation, but my pores are still very much clogged. It takes approx. 28 days for skin to turn over, so I plan to give the program 2 cycles before I give up. So far, the results are less than expected.

    I am in the medical field, and what is presented in the book makes sense, however the actual program he outlines is not supported by scientific data. He explains the purpose of each product used, and backs its effectiveness up by mentioning scientific studies. The flaw is he supports each individual treatment with current data, but has no data supporting his combination of treatment. Therefore, one can only be skeptical of the programs true effectiveness. I admit, after reading the book I was convinced it would work, however, 6 weeks later I have shown little improvement.

    I have suffered from adult acne for about 6 years, with the onset at about age 25. I never had teenage acne. My dermatologist says that I have mild acne, but lets face it, if you have acne it is anything but mild! I, like many others, have tried everything without success. I am certain that my acne is hormone related. If acne is hormone related, which in my opinion almost always is, topical medication will not change the levels of hormones your body produces. Therefore, topical medication may make acne better, but will never serve as a cure. My opinion, if you can afford it, see an endocrinologist that treats acne.

    The book is a good read for understanding acne and how over the counter acne products work. Good skincare advice, but not a “cure” for acne.

    As of today, I’ve done the first part of the program for 10 weeks. I’ve only gotten two or three pimples a week for a month, and they go away more easily than they used to. Let’s call it a 70-80% improvement. The products I used were Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash (2% salicylic acid), Paula’s Choice 8% Alpha Hydroxy Gel (8% glycolic acid, no salicylic acid), Neutrogena On-the-Spot Acne Treatment (2.5% benzoyl peroxide), and Eucerin Extra Protective Moisture Lotion (SPF 30, non-comedogenic).

    I’m moving onto the maintenance program to see what happens. I’ll be using Peter Thomas Roth Glycolic Acid 3% Facial Wash, NutriBiotic Face Creme (alpha lipoic acid, DMAE, vitamin c ester, tocotrienol), and the same moisturizer. Updates in 2-3 weeks.

  15. Informative, But Not Revolutionary

    “The Acne Cure.” Those three words can instantly conjure up weary thoughts in the acne-ridden. Why? It’s because anyone who has acne has already heard about a plethora of acne cures. For instance, one cannot browse an acne related website without being exposed to “cures” one has discovered. Television consistently show teenagers in neon bright colors appearing and reappearing on the screen jabbing blackheads and dousing their faces in water. “Bye Bye Breakouts!” they shout.

    We are even convinced to try “miracle creams and solutions”, home remedies, weird regimens and even antibiotics. Accutane, the “if all else fails” antibiotic, is even advertised as an acne cure. I’ve tried Accutane twice in the past, and even THAT didn’t rid me of acne forever. So if Accutane, an incredibly potent medication, cant remove acne from my life, how can The Acne Cure’s four simple steps save the day? Why is THIS Acne Cure the real deal?

    I must say, being promised the acne cure in a [...] book, intrigued me, so I picked up the book so I can review it for my website.

    The main questions that instantly popped in my head were:

    - Who is Terry J. Dubrow?

    - Why is he confident enough to label his book the Acne Cure?

    - If this cure is true, why isn’t it universally known?

    The Acne Cure is described as a “groundbreaking four step program that immediately helps to improve your skin.” The Acne Cure promises a fast acting cure, regardless of the severity of your acne, with no side effects or dietary changes. Dubrow promises results in 24 HOURS and complete eradication of your blemises in six weeks or less.

    Sounds too good to be true?

    The Acne Cure is an extremely valuable book for one yearning to learn about their skin. It’s full of empowering ideas, skin revelations, and effortlessly communicates an authentic feel. The book starts out beautifully. Dubrow explains how magnificent and dynamic the skin is in the first chapter, “Skin.” It is in this chapter where he strongly communicates to the reader his faith in his regimen.

    “Using the techniques outlined in this book, acne can be completely eliminated in 95% of all cases — even the most severe ones — in six weeks or less..”

    The remaining 5 percent? I figured that five percent would consist of people who had NO success with the Acne Cure or people whose skin became worse. Wrong. Dubrow believes that 5% will experience a great reduction of their acne. Therefore, if true, it’s pretty safe to say that The Acne Cure is a book that every person with acne should own. Right?

    So, you’re wondering if you should purchase this book.

    My biggest gripe with the Acne Cure though is the actual step by step process used to achieve clear skin. Admittedly, I don’t use the Acne Cure — I have my own regimen that I discovered through years of trial and error — but the components that make up Dubrow’s “Cure” are products the common acne suffer has been using for years. The book is informative, but not revolutionary. The actual Acne Cure consists of Salicyclic Acid, Benzoyl Peroxide, Glycolic Acid, and a sunscreen.

    What if someone’s skin does not mesh well with one of these products though? What if someone refuses to use Benzoyl Peroxide because of immense irritation? Are they excluded from trying the Acne Cure? Where are the alternatives?

    I’m an advocate of a simple, quick and easy to use regimen, so the use of all of the aforementioned products daily irritates me. Personally, I know I would deviate or lack the discipline to follow this regimen everyday. Using icepacks to reduce irritation? It may sound good in theory, but I find that tedious and a bit ridiculous. If you believe that you can stick with the regimen and never break or deviate, then you should try it.

    Secondly, using Dubrow’s Acne Cure requires a large amount of accuracy and dedication. His regimen is pretty lengthy, but at the same time, it’s ambiguous. His application instructions are NOT very clear, so it’s going to take a bit of re-reading on your part to fully grasp the steps required to clear your skin. It’s important that you do, so you don’t risk taking another hit to your self confidence or damage your skin any further.

    Overall, The Acne Cure is a must own not because of the actual regimen inside, but the information. Reading this book has enabled me to fully understand how skin and acne works. For example, Before, I knew that popping acne was wrong, but I never knew exactly why. In one of his great revelations, Dubrow explains what happens when we pop our pimples, how the body reacts, and goes into depth about the skin’s irony : in an attempt to fight acne, the skin defense mechanism actually makes itself MORE vulnerable to spreading and infection.

    Little gems like this are spread all throughout the book, so it’s a great purchase for that alone. I highly recommend this book. Buy it today.
