An expensive but healthy food

These berries are thought to be one of the one of the healthiest natural foods. There are many “stories” about the amazing benefits of these berries, many of which may be true, but a few verifiable facts about them (in dried form) follow:
1) High protein (about 12%), and are a complete protein. This is good for anybody, but particularly noteworthy to vegans, who choose not to get their protein from meats.
2) Decent fiber content (about 10%)
3) 18 (!!) amino acids
4) Like most sweet fruits, high in carbs and calories. 100 grams give you about 350-380 calories; roughly 3/4 from carbs and 1/4 from fat.
5) 6 vitamins, 8 amino acids, 11+ minerals (more in trace amounts)
6) Carotenoids, unsaturated fatty acids (this is a good thing), phytosterols (help lower cholesterol), and other healthy (or theoretically healthy but not particularly well researched) phytochemicals.

The Ultimate Berry

Having consumed Himalania Goji Berries for over one year, the Navitas Naturals Goji Berry is a great addition to the exotic food market. The Navitas Goji is harder and drier than the Himalania Goji, but the flavor is much sweeter and better tasting.
I love the fact that they’re raw, vegan, sun-dried, and free of chemicals and pesticides! Goji berries are believed to strengthen the immune system, increase energy and reduce fatigue, and reduce the threat of free radicals (due to HIGH levels of antioxidants). Gojis have highest ORAC score to date! The ORAC scale is a standardized test used to measure the total antioxidant potency of foods and nutritional supplements.
Definitely, one of my favorite foods!

Tasty berries!

These supposedly have some of the highest levels of antioxidants of any food, which is why I bought them. But I really like the taste too. It’s not too far off from a cross between a tomato and a strawberry, but a very little bit bitter at times.
Overall they taste great, though some kids might not like them due to the slight bitterness.
Edit: A few of these berries have a bit of mold on them. I would reduce my ranking by 1 star if I could.

To dry and crunchy and little flavor

Tibet authentic are much better, in my opinion. They are moist and chewey like raisins, but more dense and flavorful. These are very dry and crunchy and have very little flavor. A little bit of a cardboard taste.

I have tried a lot of trail mixes and I LOVE this company, but this particular trail mix is going in the garbage. No one in my family will eat it. The ingredients are all really good for you, but that is the only positive thing I can say about it.

Interesting product. Overly hyped, high priced red raisins! This brand is comparable to others. I doubt that they’re grown in the Himalayas. Goji is also grown in California. I didn’t think that this food is especially “super”.

Confirmed Goji Berry causing severe nausia cramping and intestinal pain.
I was introduced to goji berries during the summer as a friend I met had just opened a raw food cafe. His food NEVER (I mean never) gave me any problems it was all delicious and much of it was cacao and goji berries. He has very selective about his sources and does not trust many companies out there.(His Goji comes from Sunfood)
When I returned home from Alaska I decided to try more superfoods and bought a trail mix by Navitas that was Goji, Cacao Nibs, and Cashews. That day I had a green shake for breakfast and a banana for a snack then just a pinch of Goji Berries afterwards. Within the hour I was writhing in pain and couldn’t imagine what it was.
This pain is severe. I wanted to die. It lasted about twelve hours. Including vomiting and diarrhea
Next day I had a big green salad for lunch and then feeling better grabbed another SMALL pinch of goji and within 20 minutes I was in the exact same pain. I knew then it was the goji and instantly typed “goji stomach ache” into google and found threads verifying it.
I called my friend and told him about my reaction and he asked me if it was Navitas. I didn’t recall and didn’t have the bag on me but he said he bet 100% it was them. He had similar reaction to their product and did hydrogen peroxide tests and found them to be rancid. Got home and verified his assertion.
Again, I never had this problem before eating Goji from Sunfood, but this Navitas is killing me.
BEWARE: Detox can be painful enough even on a quality Goji berry. You should start with very small amounts and I would recommend trying alternate brands NOT navitas.

I like this product due to its taste, packaging (good enough for gifting) and price point is very satisfactory for the quality.
Excellent for baking (I added it instead of raisins, just needs to be placed in boiling water for couple of minutes before use), very good with cereal and smoothies.

A friend of mine got me hooked on these and called them a “superfood.” Looking at the nutrients they have, they’re pretty close! Good source of amino acids and proteins in a tasty package. Good on cereal or mixed with nuts, like a trail mix. I sometimes add them to smoothies. Good for baking. There are a lot of uses for them. Can replace other berries in whatever you’re baking, should you desire.

I’ve had 3 bags of these now, and enjoyed the taste combination so much i bought my own goji berries and raw cashews to do a mix for myself (as less cost, of course). This is also good, but the cacao nibs add a great touch as well. Definitely a good product, but for me a bit expensive to eat too often.
Poor Tasting, Bitter

Hearing the many benefits of Goji Berries, I decided to pick up a pack and give them a try. I am very forgiving of healthy foods when it comes to taste; I am _that_ health nut in your group of friends who has the self control to turn down treats and to teach myself to enjoy foods.
I just could not do anything with these berries. They were dry, chewy, bitter and unpleasant. I didn’t enjoy the taste or the texture, and mixing with yogurt or cereal didn’t make them easier to eat.
I would certainly give Goji Berries another chance at another venue or in another format, but I did not enjoy this particular presentation.

Warning COOK Goji Berries BEFORE Ingesting !

I recently purchased a case of Goji Berries through Amazon.com, and as a heath WARNINBG for EVERYONE BUT particularly those with Type II diabetes who have LOWERED resistance to ALL sources and kinds of bacterial, fungal and ciral infection, COOK your Goji Berries BEFORE EATING them; I recently ate the LAST ate the last bag of berries purchased from Navita.com via Amazon.com and contracted what I STILL BELIEVE to be food poisoning from those berries; the compnay says their berries can be eaten right out of the pouch BUT for your perssonal safety and that of your family PLEASE thoroughly RINSE these Navita berries in running water FIRST and then COOK them in boiling water BEFORE ingesting them IN ANY other food or simply right out of hand; refrigerate ALL left over fruit and consume within a bout seven days after first sterilzing the berries; DON”T end up like I did in the ER of our local regional mediocal center our here in Phoenix, Atrizona with a fever and diarrhea wh9ch the ER doctors blamed on a urinary tract infection which I already hacd been fighting with antibiotics from my familu doctor ! This is VWRY IMPORTANT for ALL diabetics to know, most ESPECIALLY parents of Children with Juvenile Diabetes who are attempting to assist their children with keeping the blood sugar LOW to prevent blindnes, kidney damage and other horriric complications of diabetes while working on satisfying their kids sweet tooth witn fruit instead of even low sugar or Splenda sweetened desserts all the time ! PLEASE publish this review as Amazon.com could save misery and even LIVES by doing so; ONE MORE warning, IF you open a package of Navita.com Goji Berries and they have a NOTICEABLE sweet, slightly moldy aroma DO NOT eat that product, RETURN it to Amazon.com and get a refund for it, it IS NOT worth getting food p;oisoning just to save a buck by eating those berries which cAn make you quite ill !

I guess it all depends what you are accustomed to. I read that one of the other reviewers called it “gross.” I actually found it to be delicious and I have been eating this stuff for a while now. I also consider myself to have a fairly good palate as I am a classically trained chef. However, I understand what the other reviewer is talking about – all of my friends and family don’t like it either.

This product was recommended by my sister’s OBGYN. She found that these berries helped relieve her heat flashes and night sweats as going through “the change”. I began taking a handful of these each morning over a year ago. Since then I have had only a few minor heat flashes, have had rare instances of waking at 4 AM as was usual, and less mood swings. Being an elementary teacher I am exposed to many germs. As a benefit of taking these I have noticed that I jump back more quickly when sick, and am not sick as often. The dry bitter taste doesn’t bother me as I take them while eating breakfast. My sister mixes them with craisins and other dried fruits. Several friends have also seen the benefits of these berries.
