What Nobody Tells You About RAW Maca…
By Healthy Habits
I have never written a review before but I always consult Amazon.com reviews before buying a product so thought I would give back at least once. I bought this product BEFORE I thoroughly researched it due to lifelong problems related to a hormonal imbalance and was soooo excited I just bought what I thought would be good; raw and organic. I took this product for 3 days until I broke out in hives. I only took 1/2 tsp day one and 1/4 tsp days 2 and 3. I got the hives day 2 but was hoping they were not related to the Maca (they were). So…. I researched more and there is one very informative forum I found on google (hard to find and not sure if I’m allowed to refer it or not but here it is but FINISH reading to the bottom or you will not try this product ever): [...]. There are a bunch of websites and some scientific reviews, but long story short, it appears that Maca MUST be eaten pre-cooked (gelatinized) to obtain therapeutic benefits and to alleviate potential problems related to digestion (when eaten raw) and possible toxicity (raw) the way the native Puruvians have done for thousands of years to the present (cooked). There are studies that show ingesting raw Maca is worse than not adding it to the diet at all. Based on what I’ve read you need to start SLOWLY with the dosage and adjust it according to your body’s needs, then take a break from it occasionally or it appears to lose potency. If improper dosages are taken it exacerbates the imbalance/symptoms. There are (reportedly) many benefits of Maca on the entire Endocrine system and I still have high hopes so ordered from another company who doesn’t sell raw Maca due to the reasons above. I believe Navitas also has a gelatinized version of the Maca but I bought one with DIM to prevent the overproduction of bad estrogen which can cause cancer in people with a family history. Hope this helps!

Unique Flavor, Not Feeling the Energy Yet
By Jordan Weaver
I’ve waited to write a review until I finished my first bag of product; This way I could try it different ways and give a better opinion. First, let me say I’ve tried other products from Navitas, and they have been quality products. I’ve tried the Maca powder in lots of ways including smoothies, various raw dishes, and even straight from the bag.
Other than the normal energy you would get from eating any form of concentrated carbohydrates, I haven’t noticed any other benefits. I think this product has a unique flavor that could enhance certain dishes if used in moderation. I also think it serves better as a natural sweetner similar to stevia (but better tasting in my opinion). Mixing this product with other carbs/sugars will cause an insulin spike in the blood which is not healthy. If you want to know more about how sugars and insulin affect us, I recommend reading http://www.drbass.com/rosedale.html
So I believe this is a good product as far as Maca goes, but I just haven’t experienced the stated benefits for this high priced bag of starchy carbs. I’ve tried many natural energizer foods from Acai and Cacao (which has slight liver/kidney toxins), to Ginseng, Carob, Wheatgrass, etc. Maca energy value is low on the list for me.

Great snack
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
These are the best dried fruit snack and is good for you. I really enjoy them and so does my 2 year old daughter. My son (6) likes them, but doesn’t enjoy them as much as my daughter and I do.
Its ok

Tastes fine, i didn’t really notice any difference when taking it but i’m sure it is probably healthy. I don’t notice a difference when i take a multivitamin.
Delivered as promised but..

I bought this Maca Root powder after reading recommendations by ladies who got pregnant after taking it. While I experienced all the symptoms as stated by others: increased energy, increased sex drive, lesser pms, we’ve yet to conceive. I’ve only taken it for a month, so maybe it’ll take a couple more months to work. I’m taking it 1 tablespoon per day and I must admit I can’t stomach the taste. I disguised it with gassy sweet drinks and chug it all down.
AMAZING!!!!!!

I bought this stuff for the libido increase and it REALLY REALLY works. I take 3 tablespoons a day in orange juice (12pm, 4pm, 8pm). I combine this is 9 grams of L-Arginine (Nitric Oxide boost) from Swanson (4.5grams in morning and 4.5grams in evening). The erections are WAY more frequent and harder, similar to the early 20′s (im mid 30′s). I cant stop thinking about sex, I wake up with erections even if Ive had sex before going to sleep.
Keep in mind that im generally healthy, I workout several days a week and do cardio. I drink more than 8 cups of water a day and I don’t eat processed sugar or foods or fast food. Blood pressure and cholesterol are all above average. My weight is above average. I also take superfood from Dr. schulze to get some spirulina and cholerlla boosts.
The taste is not bad at all. For those who have commented as much I don’t think that they have ever tasted anything bad before. I would also suspect that they have VERY poor eating habit with food filled with sugar and that are processed. Foods that not processed and filled with sugar dont taste that food anyway so the Maca is fine for me.
I am also experimenting with Yohimbe, Tongkat-Ali and Tribulus. The problem with these three are that they come with side affects, whereas the Maca and L-Arginine do not have ANY side affects at all. Ive heard people say you’ve got to cycle these sexual boosters so im getting prepared to do so but I have a feeling that it wont be necessary since the MACA is food and the L-Arginine is naturally occurring in the body.
One thing to note is that booth of Maca and L-Arginine are both PROVEN to work and I can now confirm that they do.
Mmmmm Good!

I was skeptical about buying this with so many reviews saying it tasted aweful.
I am very happy I walked the plank and bought it. I find it pleasant and don’t notice
anything negative tasting when I put it in my smoothie. If anything it adds to the flavor.
I’m very happy with my 2 bags I purchased and once used, will buy more of this
brand.
mmmmm good!
Fresh dried Mulberries
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I couldn’t get the brand I normally do, so buying these was a concession. However I am so pleased with their mulberries. Although dried, you can tell they are fresh. A lot of flavor. I won’t go back to the other brand I was using.
weird flavor, good effects

If you can get past the oddly sweet flavor and the powder texture that prevents it from dissolving in anything (it’s a bit like flour), then I think that this product gives good results. I have been adding it to my smoothies, cereal (with soy ‘milk’ vanilla flavor), vanilla yogurt, and occasionally cookies (it’s really fabulous in apple-oatmeal cookies) since June. I notice a difference in energy between days that I do and don’t use it. Of course they also claim that it’s good for hormones, skin, etc, but these things are a bit harder to know for sure. I generally feel great though whenever I start my day with this stuff. Add it to milky substances, especially those that are of vanilla flavor, and experiment with baking. Just don’t try to eat a spoonful. It just sticks like glue to the roof of your mouth…yuk!
Flavor is BAD!
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
I’ve tried to mix it with lots of yogurt and and chrushed blueberries. It tastes TERRIBLE. Wish I could return it. I also tried it plain. The flavor is overpowering and not in a good way. Your going to really have to suck it up to get this stuff down.
Super snack

These dried golden berries, or gooseberries, are my favorite of the Navitas ‘superfood’ products. They are very tart and pleasant-tasting. They are packed with seeds, and thus have a lot of protein and nutrients. I keep a bag in my desk, and pop a handful in my mouth as a quick pick-me-up at work. They are much better than candy in that regard. They are a quick source of energy without the guilt and without the sugar crash.
Good For The Libido!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
First, I have to admit that the taste of this powder takes some getting use to, but I think the results are worth it. I’ve definitely notices a boost in my libido, mood, and appetite. My sex drive has been off the charts after taking this supplement for little over a week. I haven’t noticed an increase in energy, but I would recommend Maca for anyone looking to improve the function of their endocrine system.
Navital Organic Mulberries from Turkey

I do like these. They are great on cereal or just right out of the bag. Sometimes difficult to stop munching on. I have gotten them a few times and will continue to do so.

Best in OJ
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
Until I realized that the flavor is like unsweetened butterscotch, it was quite off-putting. That said, it still isn’t anything to cheer about, but I’ve tried mixing it with a few things and the best way I’ve found to take it is a rounded (not heaping) spoonful in about ~6oz of orange juice (albeit it doesn’t mix as well as I’d like). I imagine that any citrus beverage would work well.
The single most important thing I’ve learned about this stuff while trying it (and I’m talking to you, one-star reviewers) is that if it tastes too strong mixed with something, *use less*. I’ve also read that if you let it sit in a beverage too long, the flavor will get much stronger.
I don’t notice any improvement in energy until I hop on my bike during my commute home from work. I’m much more zippy on days that I take this than days I don’t.
The -1 star is mostly for the packaging. Went to close the zip-lock top one day only to discover the zip-lock had separated from the bag when I opened it. I ended up putting the remainder in a cleaned out coffee creamer container.
Superfood – Great Snack, added to bread, cereal, yogurt or more!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Originally purchased these organnic mulberries to add into homemade bread but the better half snacks on them constantly. Healthy superfood high in nutrient, low in fats, additives, fillers and preservatives. Taste is a bit acquired – I don’t prefer these like some others but spouse can’t get enough…certainly a great option for something other than raisins, dates or figs (my personal favorites which tend to be a little on the higher calorie side). Delicious plain, added to bread or cereals, yogurt or other topping.
Complex flavor
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
After reading several reviews, I decided to get Navitas Maca more out of curiosity – I can see why some of the reviews are so contradictory. It has a rather complex flavor combined with a rather sweet-ish smell – and I presume depending on whether someone has a stronger sense of smell v/s flavor, one experiences it differently. Here’s how I experience it – I find the smell to be very sweet – cant figure out what to compare it with – some sort of sweet baked product possibly. The taste is a slight nagging hint of bitterness. The smell actually bothers me, as I dont mind bitter flavors – to the extent that i have a hard time swallowing it. I’ve been taking this regularly every morning mixed with a few table spoons of warm water, honey and flax meal. As with most natural therapies I dont expect to feel any changes, but assume that it’ll do me good in the long run. I think I’ll stick with consuming Maca every day because I like what it’s known to do, but I may switch to capsule form next time.
