Meditation for Optimum Health How to Use Mindfulness

The following article is a mindfulness meditation I exercise from time to time when I want to give a “conscious boost” to increase the health of my blood flow, blood chemistry, and improve my overall circulative system function for optimal health.

As a two time open-heart patient survivor at age 39, I am obligated to monitor the health of my blood both as prescribed by my cardiologist to maintain my blood’s Protime symmetry (thin relative to thickness of my blood) to prevent blood clots, and also as part of my conscious intent exercise to harness the self healing power of the mind/body connection that we all have access to, and are personally responsible for optimizing.

For this meditation you will need a few ingredients…

1) At least 5 minutes

2) A quiet peaceful place to meditate

3) Sunshine

4) Fresh air without congestion

5) Conscious intention

6) An open mind

Begin by finding a quiet place where you will be exposed to a moderate dose of sunlight. This could be your backyard, in the court yard of your office building, or if you live in the inner city… a park close to your home.

Next sit in a comfortable position facing the sun so that you may feel the sunlight warming your face.

You may be conscious of times when you’ve laid on the beach or caught a few rays on your break how when your eyes are closed, you may still see a soft reddish glow shining through your eye lids as your eyes are still “seeing”, but are actually seeing the sunlight shining through your eyelids.

To begin, stare briefly into the sun and then close your eyes. You will see a bright dot of light that has been impressed upon your inner mind, which is genuinely the reflectivity of the sun like when you look at a bright light bulb that gives rise to an impression of light in your mind, when you close your eyes.

Focus on this dot of light as it fades away to center your brow chakra for the aim of this meditation (conscious intention.)

At this point of concentration, we are going to focus on your blood’s circulation that is in a literal sense being illuminated through the sunshine shining through your eyelids.

As humane beings, our bodies are designed to absorb nutrients from the sun. I won’t go into the biochemical procedure that occurs here, because as long as we recognise that we’re absorbing healthful nutrients like vitamin D from the sun… that’s actually all we need to recognise to exercise this mindfulness meditation.

As you are looking at the reddish glow appearing through the back of your eyelids, focus on the specs of shadows and light that appear to look like blood cells flowing through your eyelids.

Actually, the shapes, forms, mind art, and vein like streams are in a literal sense the refraction of light caused by the blood flow that is in a literal sense flowing through your eyelids, as the sun shines through them.

Eventually, the blood cells that are flowing through your eyelids, will arrive at your heart, your legs, and your brain as your blood flow circulates allround your entire body and recycles itself 3 times each minute.

When you observe the blood flowing through your eyelids being illuminated by the sun, you will in the end detect how the shapes that seem random, are random yet are flowing in a sure direction as the blood follows the natural blood stream of the veins and capillaries that are underneath the surface of your eyelids.

During this mindfulness meditation, focus your intent on the blood that is constantly flowing through your eyelids, and travels to each other portion of your body.

All the while the blood vessels that pass through your eyelids are transmutating sunlight and delivering it to each other percentage of your body through your circulative system.

While practicing this mindfulness meditation, focus intention into each blood cell that passes over your eyes, and speak to it reciting healthful affirmations like; “as each blood cell passes through my eyelids, it absorbs all the healthful nutrients from the sun that my body needs, and is restoring my blood alchemy to perfective health. My red and white blood cell count is at it’s healthiest. My cholesterol level is optimum. My blood renews and regenerates itself delivering necessary nutrients to each percentage of my body carrying with it the light of the sun!”

Yes, it’s true! And it’s likewise true that our skin absorbs the rays from the sun to soak up critical nutrients as well. Your blood in truth absorbs light from the sun as the nutrients we absorb from the sun are transformed and delivered to our bodies, as our body converts light energy into the actual nutritional resources we need to function at our optimal health.

Practice this easy Healthy Blood Mindfulness Meditation for 5-20 minutes at least once per week, and not only will you feel more alive and rejuvenated as you increase the communication through conscious intent among your conscious mind and the cells of your body, you will most likely appear more salubrious as your skin beams with a healthful glow.

If you live in hotter climates like the Sonoran desert like I do in Tucson, AZ, be sure to limit your exposure to the sun so that it doesn’t exceed healthful levels. We all need a sure amount of sun light to both receive nutrients from the sun and to well… just feel alive and take pleasure in the sun shine on our face, but over exposure to the sun may have averse effects as well. Live well!

From Publishers WeeklyDoctors Weil and Kabat-Zinn uncover myths and realities surrounding the often times daunting art of meditation. Frequent television appearances, a newsletter, a Web website and a bevy of bestselling books have made Weil (Eating Well for Optimum Health) America’s most prominent defender of holistic medicine, and his fans will be grateful for his calm, welleducated coauthor/reader, University of Massachusetts Medical School professor Kabat-Zinn (Full Catastrophe Living), who has practiced meditation since the 1960s. Defining meditation plainly as “directed concentration” and “dropping into stillness” with breath as the natural object of focus, the writers commend comfortable clothing, a dignified sitting position, turning off the phone and not getting discouraged. Honing “mindfulness” through repetitious actions like dishwashing or walking, and at times of pleasure and pain (lovemaking, recovery from illness) increments meditative skills. Freedom from addictive thoughts, a sense of ease and inhabiting the present moment may result from practicing Christian prayer or Tibetan, Hindu or Buddhist meditation. The writers back up their conclusions with regards to meditation’s capacity to ease pain, lower blood pressure and slow heart rate with medical research. From Library JournalIn this comparatively short program, Weil and Kabat-Zinn present a very user-friendly and nondoctrinal introduction to a basic meditation technique. As is general with Weil’s “Optimum Health” series, the data is offered in a very understandable format, which will appeal to teens and adults. His comprehensible statement of what meditation is, the respective types, and his personal experiences (how he doesn’t do it perfectly) are very valuable. Kabat-Zinn has practiced meditation for 40 years and presently employs it to help people with respective diseases including chronic stress and/or pain. While he offers a great deal of background, his chief contribution is to lead one through the basic meditation and some permutations. Like Weil, he is careful to be inclusive rather than rigid. Kabat-Zinn explains his recommendations for sure methods and inspires listeners to do what they may to see meditation as an adventure, a gift to themselves, rather than just “one more thing to do.” Highly recommended. 3A very basic introduction
By AfroAmericanHeritage
This CD would be useful to a beginner with little or no previous introduction to the subject. I had hoped it would have more in the way of guided meditations, but the few guided meditations provided are really too brief to be of much use beyond, again, a most basic introduction to the concept. It’s worth borrowing from the library.

For a really good foundation in the process, I’d suggest Jack Kornfield’s THE INNER ART OF MEDITATION.

4Good introduction to meditation
By CE Johnson
This is a solid introduction to the practice of meditation. The first disc features Weil and Kabat-Zinn giving background information about meditation. The second disc features guided meditations. Like any spiritual practice, the more information an individual gets, the better he or she becomes at that practice. This set of discs is a good starting point that will get a person going into meditation immediately, which might lead the listener to pursue additional materials about spirituality.

4Fundamental information about meditation
By Rupert Valentino
Anyone who is looking for a way to relax, and to just get the basic rundown of what meditation is all about, this recording will give you just that. Sit for awhile and listen to Dr. Weil’s kind voice and that alone will have you feeling relaxed. John Kabat-Zinn is a little odd, I really respect his vast knowledge and practical advice, but his take on things seems a bit surreal. I recommend this for anyone who is in need of a practical, if basic guide to meditation.

Terrific 2 CD set – enjoyable to listen to, highly informative, short and sweet. You are on your way to using the techniques immediately. Nice addition to my “arsenal” of self-healing techniques.

I have several meditation/healing cd’s from Andrew Weil, which I enjoy. This is not one of them. Perhaps as an introduction to meditation there is some useful content, but I did not find it helpful.

  4. Great for Beginners

I am just a beginner at Meditation, and I am trying to learn this for my health.

I think this is a good CD to listen to if you are just starting out. I got some good ideas from this recording, and I am sure I will be able to use what they taught.

This CD was recommended to me and I have heard good things about Dr. Weil, but I have to say the CD’s were a let down. The lecture was too long and i thought it would have been better to simply be text. The actual breathing exercises were not that inspiring and quite short. Although it was instructional to go through the breathing exercises along with the CD it would have been better if that part was expanded.
