Cupuacu is exceedingly usual in South America, in particular Brazil, and is poised to become the next big super fruit to hit the U.S. Some nutritional feed experts are saying that it will eclipse the usual Acai because it’s healthier, has the same benefits, and is posing no difficulty to grow without destructing rain forests. So what is Cupuacu, why is it better, and how may you get it? ABOUT CUPUACU Cupuacu is a tree that grows in the rain forest canopy in South America with the Latin name Theobroma Grandiflorum. The Cupuacu belongs to the cocoa family and grows to a height of 12-20 meters (30-65 feet). The fruit of the tree, which is called by the same name, has been a necessary feed source for natives in the rain forest for centuries and has a creamy, exotic pulp at the center of a big melon. The fruits are with regards to the size of a medium-sized watermelon and become ripe from January to April, for the duration of the rainy season. These are gathered, split open, and the pulp is made into juice, ice cream, jam, tarts, smoothies and more. These are considered delicacies in a heap of of the larger cities of South America, such as Rio, and are sold in shops of all description. Traditionally it has been cultivated and used by indigenous peoples for centuries. Nutritionally, Cupuacu is very compact and full. The “beans” (seeds) were often given to people to chew to heal abdominal pains and the juice would be blessed by shamans and given to pregnant women, newlyweds who wanted children, and others for respective maladies. Cupuacu came to the attention of numerous westerners when a Japanese company attempted to trademark the name of the tree and fruit as well as the term “Cupulate” to trade as a chocolate coffee-like drink. Brazil in the end declared Cupuacu to be the national fruit and the name to be ineligible for trademark. THE NUTRIENTS IN CUPUACU Alone amidst each plant known, Cupuacu fruit has phytonutrient polyphenols (theograndins). These have a myriad of nutritional benefits, which will be discussed more exhaustively below. Cupuacu is likewise heavy with vitamins B1, B2, B3 (Niacin), fatty and amino acids, and at least nine antioxidants (including Vitamins A and C). Being from the cocoa family, Cupuacu also has a high flavanoid content. There are some other ingredients in the nutritional content of these rain forest fruits as well, including calcium, selenium, and others. HEALTH BENEFITS OF CUPUACU There are a great deal of health gains to Cupuacu, most of which are tied to the fruit’s exceedingly potent phytonutrient polyphenols, anti-oxidants, necessary nutrients, vitamins, and others cited earlier. It’s crucial health gain is stimulating the immune scheme while simultaneously supporting the body’s capacity to fight disease. Cupuacu has a caffeine-like effect, but does not incorporate caffeine. It is one of the few cocoa relatives that does not, yet it retains this energetic effect. Most of the gains of Cupuacu are synergistic. Scientists in Brazil have analyzed both fruits and have found that, pound for pound, fresh-picked Acai has less-concentrated antioxidants, vitamins, etc. than Cupuacu. Since Cupuacu is a melon-type fruit with a comparatively thick skin, it is not prone to nutritional loss when picked and keeps for a longer amount of time after picking before consenting reluctantly to rot than Acai does. Cupuacu trees develop more fruit per tree (measured by weight) than Acai does, and these trees are already naturally indigenous rain forest specimens. Because Cupuacu is comparatively new outside of South America, it has not been exposed to the hucksterism that Acai has and most origins are natural and organic in nature. Although the two are dissimilar in a great deal of ways, the two fruits are very many times combined (successfully) into juice drinks for sale in North America. WHERE TO GET CUPUACU Cupuacu is available in a great deal of forms: ice cream, as a juice, as straight pulp, or even as the fruit itself. In the United States, juice is the most mutual form it will be found in. Given the a great deal of gains of Cupuacu, it will be no surprise when it ultimately begins to catch on in North America as the next and greatest of the super fruits. Benecol Caramel Chews

Not wanting to resort to “drugs” to manage Cholesterol, I did some research on plant Stanols, and plant Sterols. They both seem to have the ability to lower the cholesterol in your blood. However, based on a Johns Hopkins health alert….plant sterols tend to lose their ability to lower cholesterol, and instead start to appear in the blood them selves. Where as plant STANOLS seem to stay active and continue to lower cholesterol. BENECOL is the only off the shelf item that contains stanols instead of sterols. The Benecol spread is good and tastes fine, but the caramel chews are portable so you can easily take them with you. I would recommend the chews to anyone who wants to keeps tabs on your cholesterol….they are reasonably inexpensive, taste good, and have STANOLS in them…and they are portable. I was able to lower my cholesterol by 80 points by consumming STANOLS and watching my intake of cholesterol….

Effective at lowering cholesterol

Buy this product. Tell your friends about it. Unfortunately J&J doesn’t have a clue of how to market this great product, don’t let it slip out of production. I am in club Benecol and haven’t received anything. Spread the word, a safer way to lower your cholesterol. Word of mouth is about it, lets hope it works.

25% Decrease in LDL!

I have phenomenally high HDL (>100), which is great, but my LDL was creeping up—it got to 160. I’m vegetarian. I cut out nearly all dairy fat, added ~15 almonds/day and ~3g/day of psyllium, and started taking 1 Smart Chew 3 times/day. My HDL remained the same, but my LDL dropped to 120, a 25% decrease! I am a very happy camper!
My only complaint is that the product contains Yellow 6. I’ve written to the company requesting that they remove it; if enough of us do that, maybe they’ll comply.
