The Numi Journey
In the fall of 1999, brother and sister Ahmed and Reem had a vision-to revive the serenity, creativity, and ease that is inspired by the simple art of tea. Both artistic souls and world explorers, the two siblings have combined their faith in the transcendental properties of tea with their person passions for photography, art, and culture. The result of this blend was Numi Tea, a freshening and innovative selection of teas and teasans that arouse the palate, inspire the soul, and graciously heighten water’s distinctive potential.

The brother and sister duo behind Numi Tea

Ahmed, the master alchemist behind Numi’s blends, encountered the calming simplicity of tea and herbal teasans while living in Prague, Czech Republic, where he co-owned and ran two teahouses. A distinguished photographer, Ahmed used his artistic and intuitive nature as a foundation for his modern and artisan approach to the blending of teas.

Fluent in English, Arabic, French, German and Czech, Ahmed is a citizen of the world; each pot of Numi tea is an amalgamation of his worldly cultural knowledge, his in-depth understanding of teas, and his appreciation for quality.

Ahmed’s sister Reem has a background that is closely as diverse as the selection of Numi teas. Before the advent of Numi, Reem, a biomedical engineer, moved to Italy to nurture her artistic aspirations. Reem has exhibited her art around the world in San Francisco, New York City, Melbourne, and Florence. But you don’t need to be a globetrotter to admire her artwork–Reem’s firstborn paintings are likewise exhibited on each one of Numi’s packages. Inspired by her brother’s photos and by the meditative nature and timeless essence of tea, Reem painted Numi’s art using oil on little tin plates, with imagery that evokes a slower, more contemplative way of being. Reem believes that tea, like art, has a universal essence and is a portal for self-reflection.

What started as a dream in Reem’s little Oakland apartment moved to a lovely 25,000 squrare-foot space on the Oakland waterfront and has innovative into an stimulating and delicious journey. Since it is beginning, Numi has carved a distinct path in the U.S. tea world by introducing exotic teas such as Rooibos (Red Tea), Lemon Myrtle, Honeybush, and Dry Desert Lime, and likewise by supplying full-leaf tea in teabags, without added oils or flavorings. Numi proceeds to pave the way and set new tea trends, most lately with it is creation of the hand-sewn and handcrafted “Flowering Teas.”

5Very beautiful and delicious
By Working Mom
I’ve waited a long time to get this set as it was very expensive when it first came out. It was well worth the wait, actually would’ve been well worth the cash had I spent it earlier. Amazon has a really low price on this.

  1. Gift…
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Bought it to be part of a large gift basket I am making for Christmas so I don’t know how it tastes and what the contents of the box look like but the box is cute and everyone else who has seen it has already called dibs on it if the recipient doesn’t want to keep it. The box alone would go for what I paid for the set at somewhere like Pier 1. Also; the recipient has a young daughter, knowing how my niece reacted when we brewed our Primula flowering teas I imagine (even if it doesn’t taste that good) both mother and daughter will be delighted.

  2. Impressive, even to a 74 year old Asian American father.
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I got this for my dad, who is 74 years old as an anniversary present. When I told him I got him “blooming tea” on the phone, he didn’t sound too thrilled and said something along the lines of, “maybe I’ll give it away.” Of course I didn’t take offense because let’s face it, that’s how old Asian people are.

Anyway, I guess he opened it up, and it changed his tune right away. Not sure what he was more pleased with: the cool bamboo box that he stores his little trinkets in now, or the fact that he’d never seen blooming flower tea before. Regardless, he was a happy camper, and I got a good price from Amazon and Amazon Prime.

I purchase this for me and ended as gifts, my friends keep brag in about this gift, so its a great set, the tea is good and the experience of enjoy seen this kind of flower appear is priceless, try it with your kids its awesome seen their faces..

  4. Beautiful gift, delicious tea
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I bought this set as a gift for a friend with whom I share a love of tea. She loved the bamboo box that contained the set, and the tea we shared together (Dragon Lily) was delicious. Although I believe that you could use each blossom three times, I would imagine that it would need to be done all in one setting, since I am not sure how well the flavor would translate once the flower has been steeped and then dried before a subsequent use. The glass tea pot is quite delicate, but should be fine with careful handling.

  5. One more time
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
This is a second time purchase for me, first time from Amazon. I used up all the lovely blooming teas and cherished the glass teapot that I used for microwaving water for beverages. When it took a tumble after Christmas, I knew I had to replace it.

What a delight to find that Amazon had the set in stock!

These teas are to die for – so BEAUTIFUL and tasty and not easily obtained. The teapot is a keeper and shows the lovely blooms in all their glory and even the packaging, two separate bamboo storage boxes no less, will survive long after the thrill of the tea is gone.

This makes and AWESOME gift – as evidenced by my gifting myself twice now with it!

  6. The tea actually tastes good, in addition to good looking
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I love everything about this gift set. Most importantly, the tea flower looks fabulous, and actually tastes fresh and super. As a Chinese, I grow up drinking tea and I am picky about the taste of tea. I have tried the Primula tea flowers as well, but I like the Numi one a lot more. Other than that, the tea pot is a good match for the tea flower. The bamboo boxes are adoral as well, and I actually keep the boxes for tea bag storage after finishing the tea.

  7. Nice product
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
You know i read alot of the negitave reviews for this product, ans notice alot of people refer to it as a small pot ect, I am gathering this is typical amricanism of food product, The pot makes easily 3 glasses when i say glasses i mean traditional tea size not 16oz american size. Sadly the americanism of food is prevelant in everything, DO you know why in europe their cooking can be soo rich and creamy, Because they exercise PORTION controll, Tea is traditionally a intimate drink involving enjoying the aroma and sipping from a small glass with no handles, Anyone here know why NO handles? Because those that say the pot is too hot to handle obviouslly dont. IF IT IS TO HOT TO HOLD IT IS TOO HOT TO DRINK, that statement has only existed for thousands of years.

Now this all aside i prefer republic of tea for the bags, never tried their flowering.

But i say if you are looking for good tea and drink in a traditional sense then this is a product for you,

This is a wonderful product for oneself or as gifts. The tea is delicious and the box is not only biodegradable it can be used for other things when the tea is gone. I purchased several from amazon.com last September when the price was far better. However, at numitea.com, the manufacturer, it retails for [...]. So why it says on amazon.com it retails for [...] is not clear.

  9. Beautiful Unusual Gift
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I am so pleased with this Bamboo Teapot set. I have a friend that is very difficult to buy for and this was the perfect solution. It’s unusual, useful and beautiful. Have purchased it for a Christmas gift and after receiving it, I wish I had purchased several more, it is that beautiful.

    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I ordered this for one of my co-workers as a Christmas gift. Needless to say she was thrilled with it. She drank it that night was was very pleased with the taste as well as the beautiful “bloom” that it made. She also loved the box that it came in. Quick shipping and the price was right. Am going to buy one for myself.

  11. I don’t know if I can give this one away….
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
This is an absolutely beautiful tea set–and it smells wonderful without opening the packaging! I have decided it is unfortunate I bought this for as a gift for my best friend because I think I want to keep it for myself! No…this is for my BEST friend, and I’ll stop rescheduling our Christmas lunch, really.

The bamboo box holding the tea set and teas is very pretty, and I agree that it would be great to use for decorative purposes either separately or with the tea set. Because of the strong, yet very pleasant smell, I am eager to try the flowering tea with my friend. I think this is a gift anyone can be proud to give and excited to get. It isn’t a very large gift, however, but everyone knows that good things come in small packages, right? (Not THAT small really, I’m assuming each flower ball will make two cups of tea because of the size of the pot.) It will be really great for those “girl times” when we just want to curl up in a chair and confide in each other. The only thing I wish I had purchased with the set was one of the tea warmers.

    Five stars.

  12. Pretty and functional, but small
    Rating:3 out of 5 stars
I was excited to receive this, and it is very pretty, but very tiny. It stated how many ounces it was, I guess I just didn’t put that into relative terms. It makes about one cup of tea, and the first one is a pretty strong one. Because it is so concentrated, it’s hard to see the little bloom once the tea steeps.

For a pretty decoration, it’s nice. If you have one cup of tea a day, it’s nice. I, personally, am going to purchase a bigger one.

  13. Excellent value
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
The tea has good flavor and does make three cups each. I enjoyed watching the flower”bloom”. This would be a great gift for a tea drinker.

  14. Awesome quality, beautiful presentation
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I purchased this for my mother, a tea lover, as a Christmas gift. Since it was sealed up inside a cardboard box, I did not open it, and wrapped it as is. Inside the outer cardboard box, was the boxed chest, wrapped in light paper. The chest is gorgeous! It is made with honey color – cut bamboo, and closes with a bamboo toggle. Inside is the tea pot and the tea, packed in some type of packing straw. The tea pot is on the small side, but this is what I wanted, and expected. After you place a flower pod into the tea pot and add the hot water, the pod opens gracefully and flowers out. It is quite beautiful, and the tea is delicious.

The packaging, product and the presentation of this tea set is top shelf. I was very happy with my purchase, and my mother loved her gift.

  15. Fascinating & fun to brew….blase to drink
    Rating:3 out of 5 stars
Although fascinating and fun to brew – watching the flower develop, the tea itself is very bland. People at work were fascinated by the flowered pot on my desk, curiously asking questions. However the fascination ended for me once the steaming cup met my lips and the tea itself passed over my taste buds. To be fair, perhaps I am not discerning enough or just not attuned to the nuance and subtlety of white tea, but I found the taste to be washed out & weak – even on the first pot. I suppose it is unique enough to warrant a try if you are so inclined, especially if you can get it on sale. I paid less than $15 for the set of nine flowers and pot. The pot does not have an infuser, so without a screen, expect bits of tea in your cup. Emjoy!
