Bodum Assam 4Cup Tea Press Teapot

Bodum Assam 4cup Tea Press Teapot

The tea pot as art form. Clear borosilicate glass allows you to be grateful for the depth of color of your tea as the leaves gently unfurl in the center column. When you’ve achieved the desired strength push the plunger down and steeping is arrested.

ReviewWho knows more regarding tea than the British? When the British Tea Council asked Bodum to formulate a new way of brewing tea, the result was this distinctive press that’s almost as much fun to look at as it is to use. Simply fill the strainer with tea leaves and add boiling water–a slow process, but well worth the time. (You could also use tea bags, but why would you want to?) The clear jug lets you see the tea as it’s steeping, permitting you to custommake it is strength to your taste. When the tea is strong enough, tardily depress the plunger to stop the brewing. You won’t have any tea leaves to read at the bottom of your cup, but there’s no mess and no need to remove the strainer before you pour. But be forewarned: the Bodum press doesn’t retain heat rather as well as a established teapot, so you might want to use a tea snug if you’re not drinking the whole pot in one sitting. It’s a shame to cover up such a pretty design, but that’s the way the tea leaf tumbles. –Mary Park

5a lovely product if you are using it for what it’s made for
By L. Peasley
I bought this with the bodum tea warmer (the electic one they sell here) and use it every morning at work. It is WONDERFUL, as I can brew up tea or just have hot water on hand for teabags or my chai tea mixes. There’s a hot water tap at work from the coffee maker, so it’s simple to fill up. If I had this at home, I’d get a 4-cup pyrex cup so I could microwave that much water at once.

CLEANING:
You use a scrub brush every few days if needed. One of those yellow sponges with green scrubbies on them. The infuster does NOT hold on to flavor unless you are simply not washing it. The infuser is plastic, so if you don’t actually wash it off but just run water over it, yes it will retain odor/taste. You have to have a semi abrasive action to take off whatever hangs around. Really not an issue if you aren’t a completely lazy bum. Takes me about 30 seconds to run a scrubby sponge around the inside and outside and I only need to do that if I’ve left it sitting around for hours on end with strong tea leaves inside.

The plunger does NOT get stuck unless you are a complete weakling or have a defective product. There’s suction at work once you’ve pushed it all the way down, so of course it won’t glide up smoothly with a light tug. I probably use more strength opening a jar of jam than I do lifting the plunger.

Combine this with the warmer and you’ve a GREAT product. You can have tea on hand for hours and sip your mornings away.

They also sell a 2 cup and a 6 cup model. Judge how much you might drink and then pick the one that suits you best. I sometimes wish I had the 6 cup one instead, as I find that if I have that much tea on hand at my desk, it’s very easy to drink and suddenly find it all gone without thinking about it. I love it.

5You can See!!!
By Veronica Bennett
I received this tea press as a present and I love it. It is easy to clean and easy to see the strength of the tea brewing. In the time it takes to heat the water, you can fill the basket with your favorite loose tea, take your cup and saucer from the cabinet and put some cookies on a plate. And did I say how easy it is to clean? I take my tea leaves and feed my plants with them, then I simply rinse and wash the parts.

5Buy the right tea!
By A
I love this tea press. In fact I have a large one for company and a small one when it is just the two of us. The previous reviewer said that there were tea leaves everywhere but I think she was probably not using tea leaves but processed tea which is very small and look almost like coffee grounds. So you do need to take care that you buy the right kind of tea which is pretty easy when you know what to look for. I have had mine for a year now and have never had a problem.

As for the care of this it is easy to clean and pretty sturdy. I recommend it to anyone who likes tea.

Enjoy!

  1. Great product–one caveat
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
This is a good product and works really well, and amazon has a great price on it; however, be advised that the infuser is PLASTIC, so if you make flavored teas in it, the flavor lingers. My advice to people who drink more than one kind of tea is to spring for the more expensive stainless steel infuser. One other minor issue–it ought to come with a separate lid for serving in case you remove the infuser to add something to the pot (milk, for example). There’s no way to have it covered when the infuser is removed.

  2. I really like it, but it’s not my favorite teapot
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I also own a HuesNBrews teapot. I thought that this one would be so much better and I got the other based on it’s “cuteness”. I like this a lot for teas that I can brew multiple times- it’s SO much easier with this teapot. But the tea leaves get stuck in the infuser’s holes and a lot of sediment and fine leaves get out into the tea. If you brew high quality teas that can be infused multiple times, this is the teapot for you.

  3. Glass vs. Plastic Bodum Teapots
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I’ve always appreciated Bodum’s stylish designs, but I haven’t always been impressed by their functionality. Take the Assam teapots. Over the past 3 years I’ve owned both a plastic and a glass teapot in the 34-oz size. Both have worked effectively, yet both had an eventual downfall. First, the glass teapot (Bodum Assam 34-Ounce Glass Tea Press with Stainless-Steel Filter). The walls of the glass teapot’s body are too thin. After several months of daily use, the handles of the glass teapots cannot withstand the weight of a full pot of tea. Mine fractured around the base of the handle, and thankfully I noticed it before anything more severe could take place. Other reviewers have had issues where their pot has shattered completely, which tells me this was not an isolated incident. I personally rate this at 3 stars.

As for the plastic teapots, they are much more reliable in terms of use, hence the 4 stars. However, the tea press filter is made of plastic, not stainless steel, which became badly stained within the first month of use with a black ceylon tea. It’s a compromise to give up the more stylish, clean appearance of the glass bodum for the more trustworthy construction of the plastic teapot, but in my opinion, its the safer choice.

  4. Useless without infuser
    Rating:2 out of 5 stars
I bought this teapot so I could enjoy the Primula tea flowers I purchased at the same time. Since I wanted to see the tea “blossom,” I left out the infuser. It turns out the lid is too small to cover the pot if the infuser is removed; it falls in. Not exactly what I was going for. Leaving the lid off leads to cold tea. A very disappointing product from a well-known name in teapots.

I purchased some of my beautiful herbal medicinal teas from my favorite herbal remedy shop [...]

( be SURE to get their Skinny Mini tea-I lost 18 pounds and now have ZERO cellulite! ) and they recommended this product-it works great although the boil time is a bit slow. It also looks great on my counter and I love that the water is ready for me all day..highly recommend this product!

  6. Conceptually, Brilliant . . . In Practice, FLAWED
    Rating:1 out of 5 stars
This tea infuser is definitely brilliant, although only in idea. Using it is another matter. First, the fuse basket is poorly designed. I don’t think it gives loose tea enough room to fully brew. Second, the basket itself is very flimsy and extremely hard to stay securely in the pot when pouring. As soon as you reach 90 degrees the basket just falls out. You cannot hold onto the lid to keep it in place as you pour because it is very hot. The plunger is made of stainless steel, making it near impossible to leverage.

All in all, a horrible product.

  7. Short and stout teapot. Perfect for loose leaf tea.
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
The Bodum Assam Teapot is attractive, sturdy, and easy-to-clean. In particular, I like the way the tea basket is designed, with no holes on the bottom third. This makes it possible for the tea basket to have much larger “vents” without introducing much sediment to the tea, making it easier to clean than the typical baskets which use very fine metal mesh.

  8. Good except for the nylon infuser
    Rating:3 out of 5 stars
The tea pot works great except the infuser is nylon and discolors after the first usage.

  9. Perfect Tea every time!
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
The Bodum Assam 4-Cup Tea Press makes brewing perfect tea from loose tea leaves both fun and simple. If you prefer loose tea to tea bags, and enjoy tea at the office, this is the way to do it. The basket easily holds five teaspoons of loose tea (one per cup plus “one for the pot”). Pour in hot water, wait four to five minutes and press down the plunger. This pushes the leaves to the bottom of the basket, and seals them in so they don’t continue infusing the tea. You have perfect tea, that doesn’t grow bitter, and the leaves are contained so that they can be easily disposed of. It makes enough tea so that you can serve tea to a visitor and even offer “seconds.” Everything rinses out easily, too. I have one for the office and one at home.te

  10. Poor pour
    Rating:2 out of 5 stars
Having owned one of these for at least 5 years I feel I can speak with authority here! It’s a good size, looks nice, I’ve had no plunger issues though bits of tea do get caught in the strainer holes. The cavity at the bottom of the plunger shaft that holds the tea leaves post plunge also holds a quantity of water, always a nuisance when you’re trying to shake old leaves into the bin.

But.. the biggest issue by a long way, and the reason I dislike the pot greatly is that it *invariably* spills when you pour. It’s nothing to do with lining bits up, it’s a simple design flaw in the glass pouring lip. If the pot is over half filled with water (and if it’s not, the water won’t hit leaves anyway!) when pouring be ready for a steady dribble round to the bottom of the pot and on to the floor.

I find it incredible that a teapot.. designed for one thing, and one thing only, has such a fundamental flaw in its operation. Surely the designers used it before releasing it on the unsuspecting public?!

So don’t buy this. Buy something else. I’d never buy one again, regardless of how cute they look.

  11. Bodum Assam Teapot
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Nicely designed, with a large infuser that can be sealed to stop the brewing process. This eliminates the need to remove the wet grounds before you have had your tea. (This way, all the cleanup occurs at once.) The handle stays cool during brewing. Also is good looking.

Note that this size is for four cups; it is relatively small. So if you need something larger, there are similar models available in larger sizes.

  12. I love it
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I like this tea pot very much, easy to use and clean, perfect tea every time, the only con, is that the plastic turn yellow after time, but you can use bleach and it will look like new again.

  13. Tea is good, Infuser material is not
    Rating:3 out of 5 stars
The tea I find from this product to be good. However I don’t like the #5 plastic infuser that it comes with. It’d be more comfortable with using a stainless steel infuser. Who knows what this plastic releases at higher temperatures?
