Lately, my friends and associates have noticed I participate a lot more in political and medical discussions. They seem to think I have become a talent in the political arena (I recognise in regards to super delegates, McCain’s ongoing gaffes regarding Iraq and Iran). They are impressed at my apparent psychological result of perception learning and reasoning of numerous of the latest medical news (let’s talk stents versus surgery, the gains of clinical trials, and, lest we forget, the importance of compression only CPR). And on Monday mornings, I may go on evermore with regards to the latest events that were on public television and public radio news (not to mention my bestloved game show). Not only that, but as I become this learned genius, I am also getting a more active person. Why, it’s a win-win situation. So, you may ask, what precisely have I been doing? What awful exercise/current events program have I enrolled in? Where may one go to become active AND smart at the same time? It’s easy. I’m walking. As I walk, I listen to my podcasts. Several times a week, I update my recordings with the most recent news from respective sources, as well as medical updates from a huge medical/teaching hospital. Some of the newsprints likewise have daily health updates, so I get them, too. There, you have my secret. It’s so very interesting to be competent to go outside (it is starting to warm up here in New England, which means I only wear two layers and a scarf, rather of snow pants and a hat), put these little earbuds into my head, and all of a sudden I am, as they say, off and running. If the show is genuinely interesting, I will walk the extra steps just to get to the end of it, whether it is news or medical information. It is actually rather painless, and, as a science geek and political junkie, very enlightening. Of course, I realize everyone doesn’t percentage my selections in radio and news shows. My hope is to use my experience with using technology to get me walking steadily to motivate you to get moving!! You need to recognise there are ways to become more active without giving careful consideration to the psychological pain of getting your body in gear. I suppose it is a distraction for me, and I’m not thinking “oh dear, I need to walk another twenty minutes to meet my self prescribed goal.” Rather I find myself thinking with regards to the dissimilar humans whose voices I’ve come to get enjoyment from talk about current events. Maybe you don’t like politics, and that’s perhaps a good thing. You may find galore other topics of interest to you on line-any one of which would feed your mind while bettering your fitness. Music, cooking shows, why, a heap of colleges post lectures that may be loaded onto music players to keep you company as you get your exercise. My mystery doesn’t just employ to walking either, you know. If you don’t like to walk outside, but prefer cycling or the treadmill, you may just as effortlessly listen on the machines. Now, if you are a swimmer, I’m scared I can’t support you there. So if you find yourself calling for motivation to get moving, undertake my suggestion. Not everyone wants to whistle while they work, but surely you may listen while you walk. |

Great Book
By L. Burnett
This is a great book. I have referred friends to it. The first day I was only able to read 30 pages and learned A LOT just in those 30 pages. Simple ideas, but put into action, my friend and I each lost 4 lbs the first week. And we’ve walked for an hour every day for a year and a half, gone to the gym. But it was a simple change of eating fuel food when you are hungry.I am excited to continue eating like this to reach my goal weight. Love the book!

Intelligent and motivating
By Nora L. Ishibashi
Among the many diet and weight loss books published each year, this is one that provides a realistic and effective program for changing your thinking about eating and dieting. Some of the book is about feelings, some of the book is about goal setting, some of the book is about self management and some of the book is about eating itself. While there are questions to write about, it is not just a book of self awareness exercises. The book explains a viewpoint that frees you from old habits of thinking related to food as well as your feelings about yourself. The process described helps you examine the deeper reasons it is hard to regulate yourself in any area of your life.

Finally I have hope
By michele
I am a career dieter, so the last thing I needed was another menu plan to follow. What I needed was to change my way of thinking. Brooke Castillo has given me the tools that I needed. There are times that the words speak exactly what I feel. I have now bought 4 copies of the book to share, as well as the “coach in a box.” I am confident and positive that I will be a thin person who takes care of herself. I get closer every day to that image. I can not urge anyone strongly enough to give themselves this book. To paraphrase Byron Katie (another great read whose work is referenced in this) It will change your life– but only 100%!

Finally something that makes sense
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I’ve read a lot of “Diet” books, but most of them were just telling me what to eat and not addressing what was behind my problem. This book does that. For anyone that is at their wits end this is a great read.
Excellent book!!!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
This book is wonderful. It goes so far beyond the normal weight loss book and gets behind the issues surrounding overeating. It also covers many items not related to weight loss which are more life coaching. I would strongly recommend this book.

EASY weight-loss for once!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I have tried diet after diet to try and shed these stubborn 10-12 pounds that have crept up on me since my early 20s. I have subclinical hypothyroidism, which means my thyroid is a little lazy, but not enough to be medicated, which is frustrating! This book was the solution to all of my weight woes. The author uses a very realistic and simple approach that really made me re-evaluate how I look at food. The “hunger scale” has helped me tremendously. The weight is literally falling off of me. I’m 5’3” and started off at 128 (I know, it doesn’t seem like a high number, but I gained at least 10 pounds over two years, which is a lot for my frame). I’ve been following the advice of the author and have lost 8-9 pounds in 20 days!!! I haven’t even been working out as much as I should be and I’m never starving.
A word of advice would be to purchase this book with the DietMinder Personal Food & Fitness Journal, as the author highly suggests writing down everything you eat. I can’t speak highly enough about this combination. For the first time in years, I’m excited about bikini season!!
You’ll never need a personal coach
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Reading this book is like having your own personal trainer. This book gave me the ability to figure out why I couldnt lose weight, by pointing out things that were just natural to who I was. Great read, highly recommend.

Hmmm
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I originally borrowed this book from interlibrary loan, planning to just read it and return. However, now I am buying the book, because I got so much out of reading it. Brooke has a personable, warm style that is a little quirky for an author, but the book reads comfortably. Her purpose is in guiding the reader, presumably someone who wants to lose weight, through the thinking and feeling concepts and exercises that seem to be the core of her weight loss coaching practice. She has some excellent insights to share! I thought so highly of myself that I didn’t expect to learn much, but I was wrong and humbled. I have lost 50 pounds this past year and I thought I knew how to lose weight (and I do), but her approach is in helping you get to the essence of yourself, your values, what you really want, your goodness, your vitality, and learn better how to respect and appreciate and honor yourself, in your body, but also in your mind and heart. Weight loss, she posits, is a natural response to this different, better way of thinking and behaving. I have been successful losing weight counting calories and exercising, but I’ve been concerned for quite a while trying to think of how I’m going to maintain my weight loss without counting calories. Now I know! Her exercises are real; they are not hypothetical or fantastical. She really does have a solution to overweight that is more about solving the source of the problem rather than treating the symptoms (overfat). I don’t consider myself to have a self-esteem problem; the book is still valuable. Brooke coaches you on how to get what you really want. In this way, the book is transformative. I truly looked at myself and my life differently and much more positively after and because of reading this book. That is a blessing. It has given me hope and confidence in other areas of my life where I am struggling a bit. Kind of magically, this other area has suddenly become much easier and not nearly as much of a burden. I think because I am thinking and interpreting differently, on account of what I learned in this book. Lastly, in the book, Brooke shares some personal details about herself and her life and perhaps even some things that she might not normally share (e.g. some not-so-flattering personal stuff), that she is easy to appreciate as a person and accept direction from. She is humbly sharing her gift. So, I recommend the book.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for emotional eaters
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
This book has helped me soooooo much. It is an easy, but thought-provoking read. I have learned to identify and respond to my emotions instead of reaction to them by eating. My whole mindset about eating has changed. I have been eating healthier since reading this book and have lost 6 pounds in the last 3 weeks because of it.
New Look at Old Problem

I’ve read a lot of books on how to lose weight. This is the first one that deals with the underlying emotional issues and not just controling the food. As a health care professional, I highl recommend this book.
Eye Opener – Good Tools!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I bought this book because I do well in my career and the title just struck me as different from all the other selp-help books. The book is frank, open, and she expresses her own fears and troubles witht losing weight. She focuses on you and wants you to do the same.
One thing she said in this book that has really struck a chord with me is this: If you don’t have the time to lose weight because you work full time, then quit. I know that is a very very strange answer. But it is so true. I really did not have the time – I have 4 children, one is 12 mos old, I work full time in HR, and I go to college full time. I honestly had no time to take care of myself. I have decided to quit my job and stay home. I realize this is not ideal for all and that some out there are struggling… but if you can, do it! I can’t wait to spend time with my family and do daily outings to the gym.
I wish this lady was in my town because I’d book sessions with her in a heartbeat. The book will have to do for now. Good luck everyone, it’s tough stuff.
I Am Smart, I Bought This Book and I Applied The Knowledge Inside
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
For me, this book is the eye-opener for permanent weight loss. In addition to fantastic tools for weight loss, there are incredible tools to improve the overall quality of your life by changing the way you view your life. I recommend purchasing the CD along with the book so you can listen to the author and benefit from her incredible energy. I wish I would have known about the techniques in this book/CD years ago!
Not Just a Weight Loss Book
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I thought this was a fantastic book not just for people trying to lose weight but for everyone! Once you get past the 1st two sections, the advice is universal. I mentioned this book to a friend who doesn’t need to lose an ounce but who has self esteem issues that weigh a ton.
I read the book through once and I’ve begun applying some of the advice given but I’ve just scratched the surface. I plan on rereading this book to get more out of it…and more out of me!!
