Diets come and diets go. You lose weight and gain more back than you started with on the “Diet Roller Coaster”. Now, the Dr. Phil of England claims he may make you thin by eating what you want, when you want it. Is this a hoax or a revolutionary breakthrough? Paul McKenna, PhD is a TV show host and author in the UK. The book and the TV series portion the same name – I Can Make YouThin. His weight loss scheme is not a diet, in fact, he claims, “Diets are the enemy of weight loss!” Can this be true? If so, what have the “nutrigurus” been feeding us all this time? McKenna claims that if you: * read his book (approximately 2 hours) * follow his instructions (4 Golden Rules) * listen to his hypnosis CD for 2 weeks * change your eating pattern you will lose weight. His 4 Golden Rules are: 1.) when you are hungry, eat 2.) eat what you want, not what you think you should 3.) eat consciously and receive pleasure from each mouthful 4.) when you think you are full, stop eating First, you need to make sure you are actually physically hungry and not with regard to emotions hungry and eating for the faulty reasons. Secondly you will have to not deprive yourself of foods you in truth want, the so called “forbidden foods” that established weight loss plans have you steer clear of. It is a natural progress to want what you can’t have and in the long run most persons cave in and overeat when they do. Instead of denying yourself, you must make peace with the feed and control your intake. In Mindless Eating, Professor Brian Wansink outlines experiments he conducted showing that people eat more when they are distracted by TVs, phones, and even reading. Dr. McKenna agrees and proposes eating tardily and consciously savoring each bite. Lastly when you do eat slowly, you are competent to listen your “inner thermostat” which lets you know you are full sooner and you may push away from the table faster. He dubbed it resigning from the “Clean Plate Club”. To aid you through this routine and support you modify your eating patterns, I Can Make You Thin comes with a hypnosis CD where McKenna reinforces the conceptions of the book with relaxing visualizations and affirmations. For greatest or most complete or best possible effect, it is commended to listen to the hypnosis for at least two weeks. |

So I just read through this book and can someone explain why the woman in the “After” photo on pg. 99 has no belly button? That’s right! I’m hoping there is an explanation other than photoshop.
Works for Me

I realize some of his tips are no brainers, but because of our cultural conditioning (commercials, advertisements, etc.) it never really occurred to me to just simplify everything. I’ve been on the program for 5 days and have lost 5 pounds. I find the CD absolutely invaluable as it has really reset my thinking about food, exercise, and my self perception. Before you start another diet, try this book! It could change your life.
Viable principles!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I have been a member of Weight Watchers for several years now but maintaining my weight in a specific range is always challenging. Mr. McKenna’s principles are not unlike those in the Weight Watcher community. He does suggest, unlike WW, that vigilance of the scale should be a minor part of weight loss. I’m somewhere in between on those theories, so I can “hear” both options.
I haven’t noticed any physical change over the 10 days I’ve listened to the CD that accompanies this book. That doesn’t mean that I won’t ever see a change. The CD is wonderful and I’ve truly enjoyed giving myself the 25 minutes to listen to it every evening. If nothing else, it peaks your consciousness when beginning to over-eat.
I’m now looking at purchasing Mr. Mckenna’s other books/CDs. I suffer from a little bit of insomnia and stress, both of which he addresses. I’ve noted good reviews on all of his publications and, after using I Can Make You Thin, I’m sure any of them would be well worth a look.

This Book Did Not Make Me Thin But ……….
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
I am sure it is making Mr. McKenna quite RICH. I followed Mr. McKenna’s advice and listend to his CD for about a week, but each day it became more and more difficult until I stopped. So, only YOU can make you thin. This program might well work if you can do it, but if you can’t, it most definately will not work.
No pain … common sense gain (I mean loss of weight)

A while back, my lady grabbed me the book I Can Make You Sleep.
I’ve read endlessly on insomnia and was generally just appeasing her. Though, I generally was clueless about my recurring bouts of insomnia. The book was way longer than it needed to be, gave some sound guidance and included a hypnosis CD. Well, I generally sleep now. The CD and a few life changing adjustments was the key. For me this is a major life event, really.
So when she came home with the book ok I Can Make You Thin, I felt like Paul McKenna, author, had the fix/hustle in for us all. She spent the $15. The book was way longer than it needed to be, gave some sound guidance and included a hypnosis CD (sound familiar huh?). Within the first chapter of the book McKenna tells you that you’ll read the whole book in two hours. At least he did not insult me. Anyway, I recommend that you get it. The concepts work and hopefully will help you spend less time killing yourself in the gym. Happy searching my friends…
BUY THIS BOOK!

First let’s start with the goods! I have been on this program for 4 weeks now, and I have lost 15 pounds! I bought this book over 4 weeks ago and reviewed it in a few days. I came across it on a whim, trying to find a nice program to start my New Year’s resolution with. Upon receiving it, I read through the first few chapters and was very excited. I bravely decided to implement the 4 rules on Christmas Eve, telling myself that if I failed, I’d just start up again on New Year’s Day.
Guess what? I didn’t fail. I had every single piece of food I wanted that evening, but I stuck to the program. Over the last four weeks, I have had: pasta, pizza, McDonald’s, chocolate, barbeque, fried chicken with biscuits and gravy, ice cream, etc. and I still managed a weight loss of roughly 3-4lbs/week. But the CD that comes with the book is very effective; I have also found myself craving healthier nutrient-dense foods like salads, whole grains, nuts, berries, fiber bars, and lots and lots of water!
The CD has also sparked my interest in exercising. I will exercise approximately five times a week and not thing anything of it. I used to kick and scream whenever anyone mentioned working out, but now I do it happily. I only do 25-30min a day, but it’s enough to keep me toned and give my metabolism a boost.
Probably the most rewarding thing that has come from the book is my peace of mind. I am no longer enslaved to my kitchen, obsessing about what I’m going to sink my teeth into next. I just go about my day, when I get hungry I eat whatever I want and stop when I’m full, and then I move on and forget about the experience. This is drastically different from the food orgies I used to have. I know it’s cliché, but it’s like I’m eating to live and not living to eat. The food is my fuel, and although sometimes I take the time to deliberately eat something delicious and savor the taste, my happiness does not revolve around it.
Is this program sustainable? After all what would be the point of doing the program and then gaining back all the weight? Absolutely! There are two reasons why I physiologically and psychologically cannot go back to the way I used to be. One, my stomach is physically smaller now. Shoveling food into my mouth like I used to would actually cause me physical pain. Not to mention that my body makes me feel my hunger with profound strength now so I know I need to stop and eat rather than ignore it. Second, I can eat whatever I want. I am not limited in any way except for the size of my stomach. And once I reach that capacity, I don’t want to eat anymore anyway. I would have to be mentally ill to ever want to get off of this program; it’d be like wanting to deliberately hurt myself just to sabotage my health.
If you’re interested in following my progress, I’m writing a blog about my success with this weight loss plan on blogspot, the link is in the comment section.
Buy this book. Save yourself from yourself.

It is February 3rd, 2010. I have lost 21 pounds on this program thus far. I’m going strong!
What Revolutionary System?
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I didn’t find anything “revolutionary” about this book. It contains the most basic common sense about dieting. Here’s what this book tells you:
1) Eat sensibly
2) Stop when you’re full
3) Eat moderate portions
4) Drink lots of water
5) Exercise
If you eat for emotional reasons, his CD may help you break some habits. If you have self-esteem problems, his advice on re-setting your thoughts may help you. It appears that his silver bullet is: drink water instead of soda pop.
His voice is not relaxing at all!
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
The book’s ideas are helpful, but the CD that goes with it is very ineffective because he sounds like he’s got a frog in his throat! Part of the hypnosis session involves him lowering his voice tone (to put you to sleep i guess), and all I could focus on was his croaky voice, very distracting! Should have hired a voice actor to do it.
Paul McKenna’s the Best!!

Paul McKenna’s “I can make you thin” is an amazing book. His ideas are great and are working well. So easy, yet so effective.
Thanks so much Paul!!!
If only I coud get myself to read it!

I’m hoping one day to read this and start to get a handle on my overeating. Right now its too cold to think about it!
Some good ideas…….
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I like the concept of this book and I think it will work if you use the principals. Unfortunately I haven’t lost any weight yet, but I’m continuing to practice the rules.
Just DO it!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
This book and CD are amazing. Although I was not obese, I put on a stone and a half about seven years ago, and just hadn’t been able to get rid of it. After reading the book and listening to the CD a few times, following Paul’s instructions, I immediately noticed the difference. I now feel better in myself, and have dropped a dress size. It’s so easy! What’s more, I listen to the CD every morning as soon as I wake up, and it gives me a great start to the day. I used to find mornings difficult – especially in the Winter months – as I have a tendency to depression, but I find the CD, which I’ve added to my I-pod, really relaxing. Paul tells me to wake up feeling positive and with a sense of inner calm……………and I do!!
Even if you are skeptical, just try it for a few weeks. You’ve nothing to lose.

Just recieved this book and cd. So far the cd is awesome. Have not had the chance to do much reading but so far…like it.
It works!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
love all his books and especially the hypnosis cds.
I have been listening to the cd every day for the last 4 weeks and I have seen great changes.
The book and cd have helped me get and stay in a positive mindset and boost my self-esteem to carry out my weight loss journey.
It’s simple and makes sense. I use the smartforlife cookies with the program wich is quite similar, eating smaller amounts of food troughout the day. The smartforlife cookies just take out the guesswork in chosing a healthy meal. What I have learnt in this book will carry me though my weight loss journey and maintenance.
This book is wonderful must read…
