The Panasonic DMC G2K is a successor of G1. It is littler in size and lighter weight than an SLR which will make it having little impact to carry around with you for long outings. It does have modern features but the settings and navigation features are easy sufficient for a novice photographer to learn and use. It is considered to be “user friendly” and is a good step up from it’s predecessor. The quick menu will grant you to access all of the settings with just two touches. The Panasonic Lumix DMC G2 has 12.1 MP Live MOS Interchangeable lens camera with 3-Inch Touch Screen LCD and 14-42mm Lumix G VARIO f/3.5-5.6 MEGA OIS. It has received very high ratings for ease of use, effigy quality, interface and construction quality. The Panasonic G2K is considered to be the best micro four thirds camera on the market today. It has full HD Video and a Touch Screen LCD. The built in Electronic Viewfinder and a Video Recording button unquestionably add quality to this camera. If, you are tired of lugging around a more prominent and heavier SLR then this might be the camera for you. It has very solid and good construction but, it is still little and lightweight. The swivel screen allows for odd angle pictures which will only add to the assortment of photo’s that may be taken with this versatile little camera. It is little only in size and not the capacity for what it may do. |

At the heart of the DMC-GF3s simplified functionality is a big 3.0-inch LCD (460k- dot) that allows for intuitive touch control of menus and most shooting, focusing, playback and effects controls. Menus may be customized using simple drag-and-drop actions like those on most touch-enabled smartphones. This allows for a habit user interface, giving Quick Menu access to functions that may be tailored to any users skillfulness level. Even the shutter may be triggered from the touch-enabled LCD by plainly touching the subject you want focalized and captured. Using the touch-screen operation, a user may lock onto a subject, enabling AF Tracking in both still and video modes. When you are ready to shoot, the subject will be in focus and ready to capture. |
| For those who miss the tactile feel of a established DSLR mode dial, the DMC-GF3 offers an modern mode thumb wheel that quickly cycles even though all available modes with visual feedback provided on the big 3 touch-enabled LCD.
Available Scene Modes: Portrait, Soft Skin, Scenery, Architecture, Sports, Peripheral Defocus, Flower, Food, Objects, Night Portrait, Night Scenery, Illuminations, Baby, Pet, Party and Sunset, which may all be controlled from the intuitive touch-enabled LCD. |
Built-in Flash
Thanks to a 6400 ISO, the DMC-GF3 shoots well beneath low light even without a flash. But there are times when a flash provides desired enhancements. So, like most DSLRs, the DMC-GF3 provides a built -in pop-up flash for added light for the duration of low-light shooting.
LUMIX G Series Compact System Cameras utilize the Micro Four Thirds (MFT) System lens mount. MFT offers more outstanding size and weight reduction in the lens without compromising lens performance and clarity. The LUMIX G MFT System offers a selection of 12 high performance fixed focal length and variable aperture G Vario zooms, including a highly versatile 3D lens capable of capturing both 2D and 3D images at the same time. There are lens adaptors available for mounting older Leica M and Leica R lenses, including older LUMIX full Four Thirds lenses. An modern 14-140mm HD G Vario lens provides the best of video and still-image shooting with a long 10x range and near silent high-speed focusing. When connected to the DMC-GF3, ultra fast focusing and automati subject track AF may be achieved. Many LUMIX MFT lenses come with MEGA O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilization) built-in. This feature helps prevent blurring from hand-shake. Working together with the cameras Intelligent ISO Control, which reduces motion blur by adjusting the ISO sensitivity if the subject moves, you are sure to capture images that are sharp. As with a lot of interchangeable lens cameras, dust on the sensor reduces effigy clarity. To eliminate this potential, the DMC-GF3 has a Dust Reduction System that uses a supersonic wave filter in front of the Live MOS sensor. Vibrating vertically around 50,000 times per second, the filter repels dust and other atoms effectively. The LUMIX DMC-GF3 also shoots 1080/60i High Definition video using the AVCHD format (sensor output 30 fps). It offers a built-in mono microphone and includes a wind-cut function that further enhances the sound as it helps reduce noise caused by background wind. An audio meter may be displayed on the LCD for monitoring audio levels. Captured video may be played back in High Definition by way of an optional HDMI mini cable directly to an HD-compatible TV, or played directly on Panasonic VIERA TVs thru the SD card. New near silent focusing features offered in various LUMIX Micro Four Thirds lenses help keep lens noise at bay, while the touch-enabled LCD allows you to mechanically keep active subjects in focus with touch-enabled subject AF Tracking. Contrast Detection Auto Focus engineering used in point-and-shoot and new mirrorless Compact System Cameras now approaches the speeds that were once only available from traditionalisti professional-level DSLRs. The DMC-GF3 now offers the new LUMIX Light Speed Auto Focus technology invented for the highly regarded GH2. LUMIX Light Speed AF locks onto a subject quickly so you wont suffer from shutter lag frustration. Contrast Auto Focusing also offers dandier shot accuracy due to less hardware constituents necessitated vs. conventional DSLR phase divergence systems, thence less pictures will suffer from scheme focusing errors (e.g., the accuracy of Contrast AF is approx. 90% at F1.4, while Phase Difference AF is approx. 60%). Manual control over focus is available in the DMC-GF3 and now features a quick 4x exposure feature. By merely touching the subject, that subject is then enlarged in a little window, permitting you to keep the rest of the effigy in view as a framing reference. Beyond 4x, that little window fills the monitor so even more control over focus fine-tuning may be achieved. This handy feature is available from both the MF Assist (Manual Focus) and AF + MF focus modes. The DMC-GF3 now offers a big LCD touch-focus area, enabling touch-focus control from any part of the effigy as seen on the LCD. Unlike established DSLRs that limit the number and position of focus points, the DMC-GF3 uses the entire effigy sensor and may even fine-tune focus with a new fine-tuning Pinpoint AF feature. When Pinpoint AF is enabled, the effigy is enlarged, permitting for pixel-level setting of the focus area desired. Once set, the DMC-GF3 will use this fine-tuned focus point to construct a sharp, elaborated image. The DMC-GF3 has progressed functions that will satisfy experienced photographers, yet is easy sufficient for beginners to use comfortably in both photo and video recording modes with iA (Intelligent Auto) Plus. In the new iA Plus Mode, the defocusing area, exposure control and white remainder may be adjusted visually for scenes where a slight manual adjustment may invent a more desired result. The new LUMIX Venus Engine FHD offers vastly bettered compensation for electronic noise beneath low light and shadows where higher ISOs specifically add grain to the image. Circuitry on the huge DSLR sized 12.1-megapixel sensor further reduces low-noise signal difficultnesses at the pixel level and at the amplifier circuit level. As a result, higher ISOs with much lower noise may be achieved. This means more quickly action-stopping shutter speeds in low light, and a greatest or most complete or best possible accomplishable ISO of 6400. The new Venus Engine FHD uses new Intelligent Resolution engineering science to sharpen edge detail without softening fine detail. In addition to maximizing edge and fine detail, the Venus Engine offers Intelligent D-Range Control. Intelligent D-Range Control enables greatest or most complete or best possible capture of the images full range of brightness, without blown-out highlights and muddying shadows

GREAT camera, but GREAT, depends how you will use it…
By Radio Man
This Panasonic GF3 is a rather impressive camera that can take VERY sharp pictures with really good IQ/Dynamic range, and color overall. Besides my love for Photography I also enjoy using the best of the best cameras in their category if I can afford them. I have owned, or own the Canon S95/Fuji X100/ Sony NEX-5, Had the original E-P1, Had the GF1 prior.

My wife loves it..!!

My GF3 just arrived – a present for my wife to replace her S95.
My other cameras are/were:
Canon G10 – sold
GF1 + 20mm – sold
Canon S90 – sold
Canon S95 – current
Canon 550D + 50mm 1.8 – current
GF2 +20mm + 14mm 2.5 – NEW
Very beautiful camera it is.. I like the curves. It is quite a lot smaller than GF1/GF2.
The GF3 user interface is fantastic. No mode dial of the GF1 but GF3 gave focus selection point which speed things back up. Contrast detect is wonderful. I also thought the GF3 UI learning curve is very intuitive.
The 14mm 2.5 is not fast enough indoors, resulting in motion blur as GF cameras have no inbody stabilizer and weak ISO performance. I use bounce flash whenever I can to give nice skin tone.
I think the star performer is to couple it with the 20mm 1.7 and shoot at lower ISO.
My wife loves it!!
4.5 stars (due to weak ISO).

GF3 vs GF1

Very beautiful camera it is.. I like the curves. Some hate it.
The GF3 user interface is fantastic. I lost the mode dial of the GF1 but GF3 gave me focus selection point which speed thing back up. Contrast detect is wonderful. I also thought the GF3 UI learning curve is very intuitive.
The 14mm 2.5 is not fast enough indoors, resulting in motion blur as GF cameras have no inbody stabilizer and weak ISO performance. However my work around is to use Synchro flash which the camera has.
I think the star performer is to couple it with the 20mm 1.7 and shoot at lower ISO – but will result in a narrower view.
I don’t need flash hot shoe and will only attach pancake lens to this.
As a result,.. I’m not missing the GF1 like I used to
