Most effective acne solution!!!

I have suffered from adult acne since I was 21 and tried so many products, including prescriptions ones, that I have lost track. The only reason I bought this was because it was on sale at Target for 16.99 and I thought what the heck. My expectations were beyond low. To my surprise, by the next day, my blemishes have either cleared or the inflammations went way down. After a week, my skin was almost flawless. Needless to say, when I went on my trip to Asia, I bought it with me. I shared it with two of my cousins who were both suffering from severe adult acne. Two days later, both of them came back to me with amazing results. I would recommend this to anybody. I would however suggest that additional moisturizer is needed afterwards.

Works so fast!

I have been using this product for two weeks now, and I am amazed already at the improvement in my skin. I am 25, and only this year have started having terrible breakouts with whiteheads, blackheads, and milia centered mostly on my cheeks right below my cheekbones. The hyperpigmentation (red marks that stay long after a blemish is gone) has been terrible! After just two weeks with this product already I am getting far less red, inflamed breakouts, and the hyperpigmentation from the previous blemishes has faded dramatically! My whole face feels much smooother and is starting to look even-toned again. The smell is kind of funky, and I find the moisturizer to be a bit greasy for my tastes, but as you put it on at night, these are not deal-breakers, you just go to sleep and forget about it, wash it off in the morning. Bottom line is, after all the peels and “intensive” products I’ve tried, this one works the absolute best, giving me fast, dramatic results.

Amazing

I am in my mid twenties and have had acne for years. Have used a million things in the hopes of clearing up my face, including Proactive and prescription drugs, with little to no results. My Mom bought this for me on a whim. I tried it with absolutely no expectations whatsoever, thinking it was going to be like all the rest, lots of hype and no results. I did the peel at night, the next morning I woke up and I noticed some of the redness was gone, and the acne was significantly minimized. I was completely floored, after putting on the peel three times in one week I saw results I have never even seen with prescriptions.

Sensitive skin? Read this!

I am 39 years old and have very sensitive skin, and because of that I had been using fragrance-free products by Clinique. I always thought I looked pretty young until I saw a picture of myself at 29. My skin was so much better looking! After doing some research I decided to give this a try based upon the favorable reviews, low cost and the fact that it’s fragrance free. (Perfumed lotions make me sneeze).

After one use, I noticed a few things. My skin did tingle slightly for a couple of hours, but it wasn’t painful; just mildly annoying. But there was no rash or irritation. My cheeks looked a bit red, however it appeared more like a natural tint. The second thing I noticed is that my skin almost immediately looked better! I know that sounds crazy. I also didn’t need to put on any blush because of the tint I mentioned. As the day wore on, the tingling went away. (I also started using Neutrogena Light Night Cream for a moisturizer- it’s fragrance-free, and doesn’t have sunscreen which I don’t need every day.)

I applied it the next morning again and noticed the same things. I decided to try it every other day and have to say I REALLY notice a difference! My skin looks almost as good as my pic from ten years ago.

I think the minor discomfort I mentioned is due to my sensitivity to most products, but because I am so pleased with the results I’m sticking with it.

Update: After using this for a week I no longer have any sensitivity and my skin is incredibly soft and luminous! I would change this to five stars but I am unable to edit that portion.

Great for fine lines and overall skin appearance

After one month of daily use, here is my verdict: This stuff works. It’s not magic, it’s not a miracle, it doesn’t transform every wrinkle and age spot. But it makes your skin look BETTER than before, which is all we can really hope for, isn’t it?

I’ve noticed a somewhat dramatic change in the fine lines around my eyes (no, I don’t use a separate eye cream). They are smoother and much less noticeable. The few age spots I’ve developed seem to be lighter. Overall, looking at my face in the mirror now, I sometimes have to do a double-take because my skin looks so much better and brighter. The permanent dark circles under my eyes are even lighter.

I have acne prone skin and I was nervous about using a new moisturizer, but quickly found that my skin actually CLEARED UP while using this product. Likely, it was due to my regimented focus on skin care in general, but this did NOT contribute to any breakouts at all.

This is one product I can see myself using for a very long time.

Love it but concern on some of the ingredients

I used this product and love it. When my cousin told me that some of olay products contains ingredients that are deemed as “cancer causing in animal” and organ toxicity etc…. according to skin deep web site. I google those ingredients and found that four ingredients cyclopentasiloxane(first ingredient), Ethyparaben, propylparaben and methylparaben(actually banned in Europe to be used in skin product) are the bad ingredient. I am now totally torned as I love it on my skin and concerned that it might be the causes for my fribromygia. So, I hope Olay will remove these ingredients and produce some product that are green and non-toxic.

A little disappointed

This was my second bottle of Prevage. The first I had purchased from an M.D. and was very impressed with the way my skin began improving almost immediately. However, the bottle I purchased through Amazon lacked the same feel, nor did it produce the same results. It felt as though it had been diluted. At any rate, the real product is good. Perhaps this was just a fluke and the company produced an batch that was inferior. In the future, I’ll just purchase from my doctor again. I would recommend Prevage MD but be sure you know what you’re getting.

Better than Retin-A

I am 40 but look 25 due to years of using Retin-A- but was really annoyed by all the peeling. My dermatologist gave me Prevage MD- I love it! Scientifically (I am a scientist by profession) the Retin A 1% should be better, but I have found that Prevage MD makes my skin look even younger- without all the irritation of Retin A. It is even reducing the two teeny lines I was getting around my eyes. My skin looks more luminous, with a youthful glow I haven’t seen in years. BUT- make sure you get the real thing from a DR! My cousin tried it from a website and ended up with irritation. When she purchased from a DR- it worked perfectly! If you can afford it- this is the best stuff out there.

Prevage MD is the BEST!!!! product ever

I have sensitive skin and I did not have any bad reaction to Prevage MD, but a friend of mine did. If you are one of the person that don’t get bad reaction from Prevage MD, you’re a lucky girl. From all the expesive creams I have bought during the years, so far this is the best one. It delivers results and fasts. I am 43yrs, I had a line in between my eye brows that in order to make it dissapear I went for botox. Unfortunately, Botox is too expensive for me and only last 6 months, so my doctor recommended me Prevage MD. The line between my eye brows has dissapeared. Prevage MD has helped me get my skin soft as a baby’s bottom and it has lighten up dark areas of my face. I recently, stared using this cream on the dark circles around my eyes. The product instructions do not read that can be use for around the eye areas but I took my chances. After putting the Prevage MD on the dark circles, I use a good moisturizer right after and I start noticing the dark circles getting lighter. I am sticking to this product. I always keep 2 bottles in my house.

PS: Prevage MD is not the same as Prevage. Prevage MD is pure. The regular Prevage from Elizabeth Arden is diluted so it will not deliver the best results. Both Prevage, MD and regular, cost about the same price.

Up until now, the field of dermatology lacked a rational model that humans could learn to follow and utilize for themselves. Prior to Skin Typing, the preexisting mode of analyzing skin divergences dated back to the early 1900s, when cosmetic giant Helena Rubenstein introductory disunited skin into four categories: normal, combination, dry, and sensitive. Excellent information!

I purchased this book after reading a review about it in a magazine, and I’m extremely pleased with it!

Before buying the book, I was worried that the questionnaire that Dr. Baumann provides wouldn’t be as easy as it was to follow since, in the past, I’ve often found that questionnaires sometimes don’t reveal your categories as clearly as they could. In this case, however, her questionnaire was simple and accurate, and I learned a great deal about my skin.

What I also like is that Dr. Baumann provides you with information in case you fall into a borderline area in one of the four categories. For instance, I fall between the Wrinkled and Tight skintypes in one category, but the book suggested that if this is the case, that I follow the Wrinked guidelines to prevent the formation of future wrinkles. She offers similar suggestions throughout, so that you know when and how to use the products she recommends.

I also like how Dr. Baumann provides products in a variety of price ranges, many of which can be found at a local drugstore. The only downside is that some of the prices were a bit more expensive than her price rating system seems to suggest. For example, each of the products is rated from $-$$$ in terms of its cost. Two of my recommended eye creams were in the $$ price range, when one, in fact, costs $55 and the other $68. It seems like these should have been placed in the $$$ range, and these aren’t the only examples of this nature.

Overall, though, it’s been an excellent purchase! Considering how much many of us spend on beauty and facial products, the book is a very good investment. Personally, I know that it will help me avoid making costly mistakes in the future. Instead of continuing to spend money on products that don’t work for my skin type, I now feel like I will be a more confident shopper.

A good place to start for the skin care novice

In my teens and twenties I never paid much attention to my skin, partly because I didn’t have any major problems and partly because I wasn’t very interested in beauty, fashion magazines and the like. I’d wash my face in the shower and draw a couple lines under my eyes in the morning and that was the extent of my skin care and make-up routine. But, at 34 I noticed a lesion on my face that turned out to be skin cancer. It was nothing serious and was taken care very easily, but it made me start looking at my skin more closely, and, much to my dismay, I realized that I was beginning to show the signs of ageing; for the first time I noticed that I had crowsfeet, smile lines and age spots. I decided I probably should start taking a little better care of my skin, but I didn’t really know “what” I should be doing. Since it’s nearly impossible to get a dermatologist to spend any serious time with you, I decided to buy a book instead. I bought this one and I think it was a good choice.

The book helps you assess the type of skin you have and determine what products and procedures are best for you. It also impresses upon you the importance of sunscreen. For many skin types, like mine, Dr. Baumann suggests a Retinoid product that you have to get through a dermatologist. This seems to have been good advice as I have read several articles in other sources (NYTimes and Consumer Reports) that say that Retinoids are the ony products which have been scientifically proven to reduce the signs of ageing. So, for the recommendation of suncreen and retinoids, I’m very thankful to the author.

As far as some of the other product recommendations are concerned, I have taken them with a grain of salt. If I choose to use them, I buy the cheapest ones or look for another product that has the same active ingredient. Is she endorsing certain products for financial gain? Possibly. But, she does give you enough information so that you can seek out cheaper alternatives. One thing is for sure, this book did not save me any money. A tube of Avene (the Retinoid) alone is costing me $50/month and if you buy all the other “stuff” (special cleansers, eye cream, antioxidant moisterizers, etc.) you could “easily” find yourself spending over a $100/month on your face.

The author is also a big proponent of Botox. She herself has been using Botox since she was 29. I personally perfer to stay away from needles and injections. Not only is it extremely costly and something that you need to do on a regular basis, but for me it seems like it’s taking the anti-ageing program a bit too far. We all are going to age, so a certain amount of acceptance (resignation?) seems in order. I want to keep my skin in the best condition possible, but I also want to be able to accept my ageing body and face (with it’s smile lines and crows feet). While I can “totally” sympathize with women (and men) who have these procedures, it is my hope that I can acquire a healthy attitude about ageing and spend all the money I would have invested in Botox on something more fulfulling, like wonderful vacations. But, perhaps this is easy to say while I’m still in my thirties. Maybe I’ll feel differently in my sixties.

At any rate, I think this is a very informative book and it has helped me make some well-informed, positive changes that hopefully are paying off.

A must buy book

I have had problem skin my entire life – acne, sensitivity. I have been sold every product under the sun wuth a promise it would help and never did. I finally took Accutane which cleared up my skin but made it even more confusing to buy products. I finally have the answer.
I read the book and took the quiz only to find out not only do I have sensitive skin but I have EXTREMELY sensitive skin. I threw out more than half my skin care products and bought several on Dr. Baumann’s recommended list for my skin (dry, sensitive, wrinkled, non-pigmented). My skin has never been this clear – no spots, no itchiness, no flaking, nothing but clear soft skin. I even feel comfortable going without makeup now. Even after the Accutane my nose still had a lot of clogged pores and even they seem to be clearing up now.
Despite what others have said Dr. Baumann is very upfront that she tests for several companies – in fact she tests for so many that she is truly impartial – many of the products she would test would be from competing companies. Common sense tells you this. I also liked the dietary recommendations for my skin type – I have incorporated a few and have seen a difference.

This book is a must have for anyone – it demystifies the skin care industry and helps you figure out what to use and what not to use. It gives options and information you cna use for a lifetime.

Helped my sensitive skin!

I bought this product to deal with some mild acne around my chin. I also get the occasional painful cyst-type acne (I am in my mid 20′s and this is a recent development).I have pretty sensitive dry/normal combo skin and other treatments I have tried have just made me peely and flaky.

I have been using the treatment for a month. At first the treatment was a little drying so I went to using it every other night and now I am applying it every night following it up with moisturizer. My skin is DEFINITELY clearer. The product is easy to apply, soaks into your skin pretty quickly and is unscented (a huge plus!) It is still a little irritating everyonce in awhile but I have not had any ridiculous peeling/redness. I’m still not sure how it will be under my makeup wearing it all day.

Overall, I am impressed with this product, it has helped out my skin!

Best B.P. I have ever tried.

I was so depressed when I was using Neutrogena’s 2.5% benzoyl peroxide because my face would always be a dry, peeling, flaky mess no matter what moisturizer I used!! This product is much better. It is still drying, as any B.P. treatment is going to be, but it just glides on so much smoother and is considerably less drying. I get a little bit of dryness but not the peeling, awful-looking skin I had. On top of all of this, it works wonderfully! I feel like my skin actually looks not only clearer but healthier and more vibrant!

If you’re a big-time sweater (especially in sticky summer months), utilize it before you go to sleep. You perspire less at night, so more of the antiperspirant’s aluminum-based active ingredient is pulled into sweat glands. The effect may last 24 hours or longer, even if you shower in the morning. If this doesn’t help, ask your doctor when it comes to prescription-strength antiperspirants, such as Drysol or Xerac, which integrate aluminum chloride.

9. YOUR SCALP IS FLAKY

If the dandruff still doesn’t go away after a few weeks, see your doctor or dermatologist. You may need a more inviolable prescription-strength product or steroid lotion.

10. YOU TAKE A PRESCRIPTION DRUG

WILL NOT TREAT EXISTING ACNE

This product will not treat existing acne! It is, however, part of a solution for treating/preventing acne. It’s important to know what this product is for. I’m in my late 20′s and never really did anything about my acne. I’ve always had mild acne on my back, chest, and face. A couple of months ago I decided to take it seriously. I bought Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash Pink Grapefruit Foaming Scrub, a similar product, and used it religiously twice a day on my face, for two months, in addition to taking two showers a day instead of one. During this time, the acne on my face would go away, come back, appear in different spots, just as it always has. Towards the end of the two month period, the pimples on my forehead became huge all over my face much larger than normal – the type that you feel bulging out of your skin and are painful if they come into contact with anything. I thought this product was the reason why it was so bad (since you use your fingers to apply the product) so I stopped using it and decided to make an appointment with a dermatologist. After calling 5 dermatologists and finding that none of them had any available appointments for months, I decided to research how to treat acne. If you google “treat acne” the 2nd link on “howstuffworks” provides lots of info.

Basically, dead skin cells continuously make their way to the outer surface of your skin where they form a protective layer against bacteria. Meanwhile, in hair follicles an oil called sebum is produced which also makes its way to the outer surface. However, if there’s too many dead skin cells or an excessive amount of sebum, it will be block pores and the sebum and skin cells won’t escape and eventually form bacteria – “acne”.

This “Oil-Free Acne Wash” is Salicylic Acid, which is used to remove excess dead skin cells on the surface of your skin so the sebum is not blocked. But chances are, if you’re buying this product you already have acne bacteria. Simply clearing the dead skin cells won’t do anything to kill the existing acne! You should use this product (or any other Salicylic Acid) with Benzoyl Peroxide. Benzoyl Peroxide actually kills the bacteria “P. acnes”. Neutrogena sells “On the spot” acne treatment in a small tube. If you have acne on your back and chest also, you should buy at least 2 tubes. One tube will only last about a week depending upon how much acne you have. I stopped using the neutrogena pink grapefruit saliclic acid and switched to this one because it comes in a larger quantity with a pump bottle which is easier to use in the shower.

Here’s the steps I follow:
1) Don’t touch your face. Doctors have told me this before and I always knew it, but now it’s on my mind and sometimes I see myself about to touch my face and stop.
2) Wash my bed sheets very often. In addition, I never sleep face down anymore. The oil from your hair will remain on the pillow, and when you sleep on your face it can cause acne.
3) Go for a jog and work up a light to moderate sweat (I don’t do it every day). You should wear loose fitting clothes or you may get Acne Mechanica, a different type of acne caused by the friction between your clothes and skin. The sweat brings more dead skin cells to the surface. You must take a shower immediately (before the sweat evaporates). Once the sweat evaporates, it leaves salt and dead cells at the surface. If you’ve been reading this whole review, you now know this will cause a blockage for sebum oil and you will get bacteria (acne).
4) Take a shower. I wash my face, chest/stomache and back with salicylic acid then very lightly with aveeno body wash on my chest/back (because I’m not sure if the salicylic acid alone is a full substitute for normal soap). I wash the rest of my body normally since I don’t get acne elsewhere.
5) Dry skin gently with clean towel (not one that’s been sitting near the shower collecting bacteria). If your skin is red you can wait a little while before proceeding. Apply benzoyl peroxide on the acne and gently rub in. You should apply it in areas surrounding the acne as well (especially areas where you know you had acne previously). The first time I used this product, I thought I would use the entire tube on the first day – that’s how much acne I had. But there’s a surprising amount in the tubes and you should only use a little on each pimple.

I repeat steps 4/5 in the evening or at night. On the weekends, it may be a good idea to leave your shirt off when you can. These products tend to dry out your skin, so I apply aveeno moisturizer only when I think I need it (worried that it may block pores). Also, you should be very very gentle when applying both products. There’s no need to scrub it will only make it worse. A few days ago my skin near my neck became VERY red so I stopped applying it to that area for 1 day. It’s back to normal but now I’m making sure to be much more gentle and also apply along the grain of the hair on my neck (as opposed to against the grain).

After using the above steps for only ONE day, I woke up the following day and I could not believe my eyes, I noticed a dramatic difference in the acne on my forehead. Remember, that acne was there for 2 months! The acne on my chest, stomach, and back were still as strong as ever. But since it worked so well on my forehead, I kept with it. I’ve now been doing this for 2 weeks and the acne on my forehead, while still visible is nearly gone (the surface is now smooth). The acne on my stomach is gone. The acne on my chest is still there, but seems diminished (I still have some large pimples that are being stubborn but seem to be fading away). I may switch to applying benzoyl peroxide 3 times a day on my chest. The acne on my shoulders is fading away. The acne on my back is nearly gone. If you don’t notice changes immediately, stick with it. It says right on the box for “on the spot” that it may take 3 weeks for you to notice changes.

You may still get acne while using this. For instance, I almost freaked out because on the other side of my forehead where I was not using benzoyl peroxide, I felt a pimple starting to form (that feeling that you can feel it starting to bulge out of your skin). It wasn’t “new” acne, it was exisiting acne that went away before I started to follow these steps and just happened to come back. I immediately starting using benzoyl peroxide in this area too (before a pimple was even there), and it went away immediately! The acne was never even visible. I did get one large acne pimple form on my chest, but it’s also going away.

Hopefully this information will help someone out there!

Excellent solution for acne

I have used a solution of these two products Neutrogena On-the-Spot Acne Treatment, Vanishing Formula, .75-Ounce Tubes (Pack of 3) and Neutrogena Salicylic Acid Acne Treatment, Oil-Free Acne Wash, 9.1 fl oz (270 ml) Bottles (Pack of 3) and this have been the only thing that I have needed for have my face clean of acne for the last year.
I use the cream in the night before go to sleep and the soap gel for washing my face on the morning.
When you start using it you can use it more often if you want but is going to dry your face, I see results after 20 days.
A friend of mine also use it and she now have her face clean, it tooked more time to her but it cleared her face.
Excellent product overall!!!
Note: You have to use it EVERY DAY, the day that you don’t use it, it is going to start appearing acne in your face, as long as you use it every day everything is fine.

Since I was 11 or 12 I’ve had acne issues – it started out mild but eventually my skin became oily and filled with acne; Now 18 years old, I’ve tried ProActive, Clearasil, and now this AcneFree system.

First of all, let me say: Don’t waste your time on ProActive. Of the three I mentioned above, it was the least effective. ProActive is just basically watered-down Clearasil, which is great for use on mild acne.

However, for moderate to severe acne, I highly recommend this product. I’ve been using it for a little more than two weeks and, while my face is not completely free of acne (although I suspect it will be soon), it is much less irritated and my skin does feel softer. I don’t have many bumps, just red blotches where the acne used to be. These mild blotches are going away each passing day.

HOWEVER, I must state: while this product is great for severe acne and works well (yes, better than ProActive, in my opinion) I would NOT recommend using it for mild acne or as some kind of skin care treatment. These are POTENT chemicals that you are putting on your face/chest/back, not some mild antibiotics.

Now, my skin has been very tolerant to acne medications thus far, and I have not experienced any itching, peeling or irritation. However, this product did BURN around my eyes. DO NOT USE IT WITHIN AN INCH OF YOUR EYES! THEY SAY IT WILL BURN, AND THEY MEAN IT!

The third step of the morning routine, which I believe in the repair lotion, is a gritty, sandpaper-feeling substance. In the beginning, it stung when I put it on because of its rough texture and the fact that my skin was sensitive due to the acne. However, once your skin begins to clear up, it won’t bother you so much anymore. For a week or two, you just have to soldier on and deal with it. It is also possible that it will dry your skin out. What many reviewers don’t understand, however, is that this is SUPPOSED to happen. That is how Benzoyl Peroxide and other acne medications work – they dry out the affected area to kill the bacteria and other impurities that cause acne. If you get mild dry skin, that means it is WORKING! If you hate the feeling of dry skin, however, use an oil free or low-oil moisturizer. It will make your skin softer while also not impeding the effect of the acne medication.

Overall, I recommend this product to anyone with moderate to severe acne. This is a very powerful system; to put it in perspective, ProActive and Clearasil have 3-4% Benzoyl Peroxide whereas this system uses 10%. It is a very powerful, potent system. Use it wisely, and don’t be afraid to reduce how often you use it if it irritates your skin. Your skin will gradually become used to it and the burning or irritation will decrease. However, I sincerely must stress to not use this around your eyes – my skin had not become irritated with anything else before, and when I applied it around my eyes, it burned. I don’t mean stung, I mean burned, where there were dark red circles around my eyes (they went away in about 2 days, but were tender to the touch).

Also, it’s not exactly perfume – I notice a few reviewers gave it a bad review because it smelled bad. Yeah, it doesn’t smell the best, but the smell wears off once the lotion has been absorbed into your skin. As long as you’re more interested in losing acne than how it smells, it shouldn’t bother you.

I only started breaking out with acne in my early thirties. After trying the Loreal adult acne system for 2 months & Proactiv for 6 months with minimal results, I decided to give this a try. Yes, it made my skin very dry the first few weeks but I used a moisturizer over it kept using it and got fantastic results. I had the hard, large painful nodules on my face and this not only cleared them but I don’t even break out anymore. One kit lasted me 6 months and my skin is soft & smooth. After the acne went it away, it did leave behind the black marks but Avon’s skin brightener faded those out almost overnight. I highly recommend this product.

Worked BETTER than Proactiv!!

First off I want to explain that I have had terrible acne off and on (mostly on though) for the past 8 years. I had to be put on Accutane my sophmore year for 6 months in high school and then again my freshman year of college for another 3 months. I have been struggling ever since then and needed an alternative to dermatoligist bills and prescriptions for acne treatment.

I was having extremely painful and frequent breakouts in the later half of last year and in early November I happened to stumble upon this product. I had my doubts because I had already given Proactiv a couple of tries in the past.

The first week of using the 4 products in the package my face became EXTREMELY dry! At first I was worried because it would always be a little red and irritated for the first hour or two after going through the routine. However, within 4 days ALL of my blemishes (big and small) had cleared up! Within a couple of weeks my skin even became smoother, softer, and more even-toned. Trust me, if you have problem skin and want to try something new, this product is definitely worth a shot!

Also, I love that you can buy this in pretty much any Walgreens and Walmart so it’s very convenient…no waiting for it to be delivered. I purhased mine at Walmart for $20-something in November 2006 and still have more than half remaining of each product in the pack.

Thank you University Medical for making an affordable product that actually works! Best of luck to all of you who are struggling with acne…and don’t mark this one off your list!
