<p>Pauline  Boss  received  her  Ph.D.  in  Child  Development  and  Family  Studies  from  the  University  of  Wisconsin-Madison,  where  she  subsequently  taught  for  a lot of  years.    In  1981,  she  joined  the  Department  of  Family  Social  Science  at  the  University  of  Minnesota,  where  she  is  now  Professor  and  Clinical  Supervisor  in  the  doctoral  training  program  in  marriage  and  family  therapy.    She  was  appointed  Visiting  Professor  of  Psychology  at  Harvard  Medical  School,  1995-96.    Widely  recognized  for  groundbreaking  exploration  she  has  conducted  since  1973  on  family  stress  and  ambiguity,  she  summarized  portion  of  that  work  in  <i>Ambiguous  Loss:  Learning  to  Live  with  Unresolved  Grief</i>  (Harvard  University  Press,  1999).    Dr.  Boss  is  a  past-president  of  the  National  Council  on  Family  Relations  (where  she  likewise  chaired  the  Research  &amp;  Theory  Section  and  the  Theory  Construction  &amp;  Research  Methods  Workshop)  and  is  a  past-president  of  the  Groves  Conference  on  Marriage  and  the  Family.    She  is  likewise  a  fellow member  of  the  Council  on  Contemporary  Families.    Known  as  a  pioneer  in  the  interdisciplinary  study  of  family  stress,  she  has  worked  to  connect  family  science  and  sociology  with  family  therapy  and  psychology.    Her  attempts  were  validated  by  her  election  as  Fellow  in  three  dissimilar  professional  organizations:    the  American  Psychological  Association,  the  American  Association  of  Marriage  and  Family  Therapy  (where  she  chaired  the  exploration  committee),  and  the  National  Council  on  Family  Relations.    In  addition,  she  has  chaired  the  exploration  committee  of  the  American  Family  Therapy  Academy  and  was  appointed  to  serve  on  the  Advisory  Board  of  the  Family  Research  Consortium  III  on  Diversity,  furnished  by  the  National  Institute  of  Mental  Health.    Dr.  Boss  was  a  coeditor  of  the  <i>Sourcebook  on  Family  Theories  and  Methods</i>  (Plenum,  1993).</p>

<p>People  oftentimes  ask  me  &#8220;Can  I  lose  weight  doing  Pilates?&#8221;  &#8220;Is  it  a  vigorous  workout?&#8221;  &#8220;Will  it  tone  my  body?&#8221;  My  answer  is  usually,  &#8220;Yes,  yes,  and  yes!  However,  how  much  depends  on  you.&#8221;</p>
<p>Randy  Davis,  a  30-something  publishing  industry  manager,  is  one  of  my  inspiring  students  of  Pilates.  Her  story  is  worth  telling  &#8211;  by  way  of  answering  these  mutual  questions  when it comes to  Pilates  training.</p>
<p>Directly,  succinctly  and  without  hesitation.  This  is  the  manner  that  Randy  has  neared  each  Pilates  class  session  since  she  started out  the  work  four  years  ago.</p>
<p>She  normally  arrives  as  the  firstborn  person  to  class,  and  quietly  bounces  out  the  door  when  the  class  concludes.  She  has  always  made  sure,  (whether  thru  big  group  classes  or  small-group  private  sessions)  that  she  found  a  way  to  exercise  Pilates  a  minimum  of  2X  a  week. It  is  one  that  I  likewise  personally  employ,  altho  my  sessions  incorporate  use  of  the  Pilates  apparatus,  with  my  private  instructor  in  a  NYC  studio.</p>
<p>As  a  regular  student  of  Pilates,  Randy&#8217;s  personal  Pilates  experience  and  her  story  of  weight  loss  and  strength  development  gain  a heap of  other  students  who  seek  to  find  a  way  to  tone,  tighten  and  beef up  their  bodies  as  they  lengthen  their  muscles.  Whether  30-something  or  60-something,  conscientious  attention  to  the  work  may  help  you  uncover,  as  did  Randy,  a  life  with  a  little  more  splash!</p>
<p>She  begun  using  Pilates  as  an  exercise  discipline  in  April  2003  and  has  been  consistent  for  three  years.  She  says,  &#8220;At  the  time  I  knew  my  body  had  changed  for  the  worse  from  lack  of  exercise.  I  actually  didn&#8217;t  know  how  to  get  started  with  an  exercise  program.  I  had  been  a  varsity  track  and  field  athlete  in  high  school  and  college,  but  ten  years  out  of  school,  I  no  longer  had  any  interest  in  attempting  to  commence  running  again.  When  I  saw  a  flyer  advertizing  a  new  Pilates  class,  I  thought  it  would  be  a  good  way  to  ease  back  into  working  my  body  without  any  impact.</p>
<p>Bear  in  mind,  Beginner  Mat  Pilates  is  not  easy  work.  It  is  likewise  not  for  the  faint  of  heart.  Pilates  requires:</p>
<p>
<ul>
<li>
<strong>Concentration</strong>  &#8211;  Conscious  control  of  motion  enhances  body  awareness.
  </li>
<li>
<strong>Control  &#8211;  </strong><em>with</em><strong>  precision</strong>  as  it  is  not  regarding  intensity  or  multiple  &#8220;reps,&#8221;  it&#8217;s  more  with regards to  proper  form  for  safe,  effective  results  in  the  motion  of  each  of  the  exercises.

<strong>Stabilization</strong>  &#8211;  All  motion  initiates  from  the  centered,  stabilized  core;  a  safe  starting  place  for  mobility.  </li>
<li>
<strong>Breath</strong>  &#8211;  Deep,  coordinated,  conscious  diaphragmatic  breathing  to  initiate  movement,  aid  activate  deep  muscles  and  maintain  focus.
  </li>
<li>
<strong>Flow</strong>  &#8211;  Smooth,  neverending  motion  within  each  exercise  and  by way of  the  Pilates  system.
</li>
</ul>
<p>One  feels  the  program  is  right  for  you  when  you  begin  to  observe  the  physical  changes  within  your  body  and  your  knowingness  thru  application  of  these  principles  to  the  work.  For  example,  Randy  states  she  knew  she  was  hooked  when  a  the  end  of  a  12-week  session,  &#8220;I  was  not  more than willing  to  wait  for  the  next  program  series  to  start out  up  again,  and  I  inquired  when it comes to  the  possibleness  of  semi-private  sessions  and  I  knew  right  then  I  had  the  desire  to  be  consistent  with  the  work.  As  I  have  progressed,  I  perceive  more  why  I  like  this  type  of  exercise  so  much.&#8221;</p>
<p>A  Beginner  program  begins  with  altered  versions  of  the  basic  exercises,  and  with  consistent,  conscious  work,  a great deal of  find  themselves  delighted  with  their  capacity  to  carry out  &#8211;  with  grace  and  control  &#8211;  what  felt  like  a  near  impossibility  mere  weeks  later.</p>
<p>In  addition  to  mastering  the  exercises  and  moving  from  altered  to  idealisti  Beginner  work  and  then  onto  Intermediate  and  a lot of  Advanced  work,  Randy  noticed  body  changes  (posture,  weight,  size,  muscle  tone)along  the  way.  She  states,  &#8221;  I  love  the  new  body  I  have  been  creating  with  Pilates!  My  waist  has  cinched  in  and  my  muscle  tone  has  bettered  in  my  shoulders,  arms,  chest,  abdomen,  thighs,  butt,  and  calves.  My  legs  look  and  feel  longer,  and  all  of  my  joints  are  more  open  and  flexible.  I  walk  taller  and  may  walk  up  stairs  without  tiring  out.  My  clothes  fit  better  and  best  of  all,  my  husband  has  utterly  noticed!  So  needless  to  say,  I  feel  sexier!&#8221;</p>
<p>While  Pilates  will,  by  no  means,  constitute  a  cardio  fitness  (or  fat  burning)  program,  Pilates  provides  a  strengthening  and  lengthening  supplement  to  any  fitness  program  and  helped  Randy  lose  20  pounds.  Friends  and  co-workers  told  her  she  looked  like  a  dissimilar  person!  She  employed  a  combining  of  other  physical/fitness  activities,  such  as  walking  rather  of  riding,  stairs  rather  of  the  elevator,  swimming,  skiing,  jogging,  running,  etc.,  to  burn  the  calories  and  Pilates  to  tone  the  muscle.</p>
<p>In  most  cases,  with  attention  to  fitness  through  a  Pilates  program,  energy  increases,  stress  diminishes,  injuries,  aches  and  pains  vanish  and/or  are  managed  differently.  Randy  said  that  &#8220;Pilates  has  given  me  a  more outstanding  sense  of  my  body.  I  may  tell  where  I  am  weak,  and  grasp  more  how  to  move  correctly  and  alleviate  aches  or  stiffness.  Pilates  treats  my  old  track  injuries  pretty  gingerly  so  I  am  not  worried  with regards to  re-injuring  my  knee  or  ankle.&#8221;</p>
<p>&#8220;Two  summers  ago  I  injured  my  shoulder  while  back  diving  into  a  swimming  pool.  I  was  finelooking  nervous  regarding  doing  a heap of  of  the  Pilates  Mat  exercises,  but  I  was  determined  to  carry on  my  progress.  The  work  itself  enabled  me  to  find  strength  in  my  shoulder,  rather  of  favoring  it  out  of  fear. I love the &#8220;yoga&#8221; atmosphere and Suzanne Deason is actually a yoga instructor who has been teaching for over 25 years. She brings a calming influence and intuitive awareness to the entire workout. You learn to integrate mind, body and breath. </p>
<p>The focus is not only on exercise. This DVD also has a small pamphlet with a nutrition and weight management guide (more a reminder than a complete program). Suzanne&#8217;s philosophy is to regain a sense of balance and then you can use diet and exercise to help you with your weight loss. We all know that when we are stressed, we munch more and make poor food choices. If you take an hour to exercise each day, you will notice you are eating more salads, drinking more water and basically making better choices because you feel more calm. </p>
<p>You will notice an increased awareness as far as the whole mind/body connection is concerned. You will feel more awareness during the day and the days that follow this workout. It is as if your entire body is more in tune and you have more confidence on all levels. </p>
<p>The scenery is gorgeous and you can truly escape into Maui! Lately, I&#8217;m thinking of exercise as a mini vacation for my soul and body. This workout also calms your entire nervous system and gives you an inner calm and confidence on a higher level than most workouts. </p>
<p>First, you are watching just Suzanne sitting near the water and then two friends join her to show you the beginner and intermediate versions of the exercises. Suzanne shows the &#8220;challenge&#8221; exercises. If you have done any Pilates videos, you can almost be assured you will be able to do the challenge section. I found it warmed my body completely, yet I was not out of breath. </p>
<p>The cueing is excellent and actually, Suzanne is not talking during the exercises, she is talking about what you are doing. It is as if you are just working along with three other students. This approach does take some of her personality out of the workout and yet it made it more personal and calming. So, she is still cueing, but not talking while she<br />is exercising, it is more of a dubbed over approach. </p>
<p>You need: Pilates Mat or Yoga Mat and Pillow. </p>
<p>The workout starts with an excellent &#8220;creating awareness&#8221; warm up that wakes up all your muscles. If you have chosen to go with the combined workout (recommended at first so you can see what level you enjoy), you can follow the begginer, intermediate or advanced versions or switch between them depending on your level in that particular exercise. You can also chose to just do the partially modified or the fully modified versions. This is more relaxing as you don&#8217;t&#8217; have to listen to instructions for all three versions and you can up the challenge level if you want to go with the advanced versions. </p>
<p>The Exercises: Foot and Angle Work, The Hundred, The Roll-Up, Leg Circles, Single-leg Stretch, Cross-Cross, Hip Circles, Double-leg Stretch, Gentle Spine Twist, Spine Stretch, The Mermaid, The Saw, Quadraped, Swam Preparation, Lower Body Leg Lifts, Swan, Child&#8217;s Pose, Bridges, Hamstring Stretch, Scissors, Unicycle, Side-leg Lifts, Side-leg Circles, Inner Thigh Lifts, Bicycle, Double-leg Circles, Standing Roll-up, Cat Spine, Arch Curl, Side Stretch, The Hammock. </p>
<p>The exercises were chosen with the idea that larger bodies would be performing them. Amazingly enough, many instructors don&#8217;t take this into consideration. The pace is perfect and I felt I could do all the exercises without feeling I had to reach some impossible goal. </p>
<p>There is a way to access additional information about a specific exercise when a special icon appears. This is called the &#8220;personal instructor&#8221; option. </p>
<p>The funniest thing was while doing the &#8220;Cat Spine&#8221; exercise, my one cat was walking under me, back and forth thinking I must be a cat. It was cute. The exercises were all familiar, yet Suzanne does include some variations I had yet to try. Her Swan was more like a swim and I liked that version more. Her roll-ups don&#8217;t quite go as far over as I&#8217;d like, but with any workout, you can change the exercise if you like another one more. There is more foot/ankle work which is always a good thing because most workouts don&#8217;t focus on this area at all. </p>
<p>So, you get three workouts on one DVD: </p>
<p>Complete 60-minute Pilates conditioning workout<br />Two 45-minute workout variations to allow you to progress to the next level</p>
<p>Well organized, smooth transitions and comforting environment. Excellent music and ocean scenery was a real plus!  </p>

For Pliates and Yoga, I prefer straight-forward, calm and<br />pleasant instruction (nothing intrusive) like that of Suzanne Deason and Alan Finger.<br />On the other hand, for Aerobics, I prefer more animated instruction (even annoying<br />Richard Simmons to that of comatose Jane Fonda who is totally devoid of<br />personality). With that said, this VHS is my favorite of the 5 that I own (Pilates for Dummies-which I also like a lot and which I found to be invaluable for learning the exercises before<br />moving on to Suzanne Deason&#8217;s VHS and the 3-SET of Mari Winsor-whom I can&#8217;t stand-<br />she talks, actually, yells, incessantly and says little that is useful. She wastes half the time<br />making stupid comments and her tapes are nothing exceptional). I do recommend &#8220;Pilates<br />for Dummies&#8221; before doing this tape, because, if you are brand new to Pilates, I think that<br />you will be somewhat confused withour prior instruction. This tape is approximately 55 minutes of actual workout time. The first 10 minutes or so are devoted to &#8220;Awareness&#8221;, awakening your muscles with various gentle exercises and easing you into the Workout. You then move on to the &#8220;Workout&#8221; which is about 40 minutes long. (I prefer a long workout to a 20 minute one) The tape ends with another 5 minutes or so of Yoga to relax you and make your back feel great. After the Bridge, you do the SideStretch and finish with the Hammock. There are 3 women doing 3 variations on each exercise. You follow whichever one you like according to your level of proficiency- Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced. Suzanne Deason makes you go slowly into each Pilates exercise (pose), one step at a time, you come out of each one the same way. If you do this properly (abdomen tightened &#8211; this is the KEY to reaping the benefits of Pliates) even the setup and easing out are pretty intense for a beginner like me.  If I didn&#8217;t like this VHS so much (as I do with her &#8220;Yoga for Weight Conditioning&#8221;), I&#8217;d give it no stars for lying about the weight loss part. I believe that using weight loss in her titles is a cheap ploy to get people to buy her tapes. That&#8217;s my only complaint about her and her tapes. DO NOT expect to lose weight from this and DO NOT expect to see immediated results, although, you&#8217;ll feel results right away. I find this workout to be both relaxing and invigorating, and, I feel great afterwards. I&#8217;ve been doing Pilates for about 6 weeks. I used &#8220;Pilates for Dummies&#8221; for 2 weeks, then switchewd to this tape. As a beginner, I love it (I do some intermediate and some advanced levels now). I can&#8217;t say if I&#8217;ll still find it enjoyable and challenging when I&#8217;m more proficient.</span></p>

Jackson<br />I bought this DVD after having used the Living Arts Basic Matwork  DVD for about 2 months. I purchased Brooke Siler&#8217;s The Pilates Body book at the same time.
<p>The instructor&#8217;s (Deason) approach to Pilates instruction seems to grow from a Yoga practice. The DVD starts with a 10 minute body-awareness session centering on breathing and movement during the breath. This is good for the overweight and provides a good foundation for the principles the workout is based on. </p>
<p>The workout sessions offer 4 workout POV&#8217;s (beginner, moderate, or full and combined). I can keep up with the moderate but can&#8217;t keep up with Deason, the full practice model, for the entire session. This is where the fourth view is useful, a longer shot where you can view all postures simultaneously (with some inserted close-ups that keep the camera position from becoming stale). PFW also does more reps of each exercise so this session is longer to perform. </p>
<p>Also, some postures have a &#8216;Pilates tutor&#8217; section available. In movements where this feature is available a small figure doing &#8216;The Teaser&#8217; appears in the lower right corner of the screen. The graphic signals the availability of a section on the disk that explains the posture for those who are new to Pilates. If you are a beginner to Pilates, please view these sections. PLEASE, don&#8217;t follow the Full practice forms until you&#8217;ve been doing Piltes for a couple of weeks. You could hurt yourself. Better to start slow and stay with it than push to hard and and be sidelined by injury or burn out.</p>
<p>By now, you&#8217;re thinking, &#8216;So why did this guy only give the DVD a 3?&#8217; The style of PFW is more Yoga-centric, which is good for some but doesn&#8217;t really hold my interest. I prefer the more standard instructor-led style of Ana Caban.  Also, and I learned this after completing the Siler book, some of the exercices used in the DVD are modifications of actual Pilates mat workout practice. So if authenticity of technique is what you crave, this really isn&#8217;t the right DVD.</p>
<p>Not to say that this isn&#8217;t a good workout. It is. If you do the exercises as instructed you will feel it the next day. This is as it should be. So much of the Pilates work is isometric, you can always make the workout harder as you get stronger.</p>
<p>I would have given this work a 3.5 if I could.</p>

<p><strong>The  Best  Exercises  To  Burn  Fat  (And  You  Don&#8217;t  Need  A  Gym)</strong></p>
<p>The  best  exercises  to  lose  fat  are  bodyweight  exercises!</p>
<p>Here  are  some  of  the  mutual  ones:  push-ups,  pull-ups,  chin-ups,  dips,  reverse  push-ups,  and  squats.  Why  are  they  so  good?  In  all  of  these  exercises,  your  torso  is  moving  through  space  and  that  brings  in  stabilizer  muscles  (the  more  muscle  fibers  recruited  the  better  the  exercise).  In  addition,  the  body  senses  &#8220;danger&#8221;  in  these  types  of  exercises  and  that  engages  the  central  nervous  system.  These  elements  add  up  to  inflicting  greatest or most complete or best possible  harm  to  your  body  fat  (damage  is  good  in  this  case).  You  may  liken  this  to  dropping  a  bomb  on  your  enemy  (fat)  so  that  the  follow  up  attack,  i.e.  cardio,  will  have  an  more comfortable  time  finishing  off  the  job.</p>
<p><strong>Train  This  Powerful  Muscle  Group  For  Excellent  Fat  Loss  Results  </strong></p>
<p>I  will  describe  one  of  the  better  body  constituents  to  train  if  you  want  to  lose  fat  fast&#8230;your  legs.  (although  this  is  an  splendid  muscle  to  work,  you  want  to  train  your  whole  body  for  great  results).</p>
<p>The  legs  are  a  very  strong  body  percentage  and  may  push  a  lot  of  weight.  Thus,  this  muscle  group  requires  a  lot  of  focus  when  trained,  and  the  intensity  may  be  incredible.  And  like  I  cited  earlier,  when  you  increase  the  intensity,  you  not  only  burn  more  calories  for the duration of  the  workout,  but  after  as  well  (the  after-burn).</p>
<p>Because  of  the  power  in  your  legs,  most  people  would  need  to  add  more  resistance  such  as  weights  to  increase  the  intensity  of  the  squat.  But  what  if  you  don&#8217;t  have  a  barbell  (with  squat  racks)  or  heavy  dumbbells  at  home?  Is  there  another  way  to  increase  the  intensity?  Yes!  And  I&#8217;ll  show  you  how  right  now.</p>
<p><em>NOTE:  Although  the  following  is  not  a  finish  workout,  you  ought to  always  get  clearance  from  your  doctor  before  starting  any  exercise  program.</em></p>
<p><b><u>1  Leg  Squat:</u></b></p>
<p><u>Step  1</u>:  Get  a  chair  because  you  are  going  to  ultimately  sit  on  it.  If  you&#8217;re  not  very  strong,  you  will  want  a  higher  chair.  Conversely,  if  you&#8217;re  very  strong  you  won&#8217;t  need  a  chair  because  you  will  sit  on  the  floor  (but  I  doubt  a great deal of  of  you  are  this  strong).  Toilet  seats  are  a  pretty  difficult  level  for  most  people.  Now,  stand  erect  in  front  of  your  seat  of  choice  with  chest  out,  two  hands  straight  out  in  front  of  you,  and  one  leg  out  in  front  of  you  (at  when it comes to  a  30  degree  angle  or  so).</p>
<p><u>Step  2</u>:  Keep  your  planted  leg  shin  as  vertical  as  possible  all around  the  whole  range  of  motion.  This  wards off  stressing  the  knee  (the  patella  tendon).</p>
<p><u>Step  3</u>:  With  your  arms  and  one  leg  in  front  of  you,  <i>slowly</i>  lower  yourself  down  on  to  the  chair.  Remain  in  control  and  focus  on  not  just  dropping  yourself  into  the  seat.  We  want  to  work  the  muscle  as  much  as  possible.</p>
<p><u>Step  4</u>:  Once  you&#8217;ve  reached  the  sitting  position,  lean  back  just  a  little  past  vertical  before  you  rock  yourself  forward.  Keep  your  torso  as  erect  as  possible,  and  push  yourself  back  up.  You&#8217;ll  have  to  lean  forward  a  bit  to  get  up  but  <i>avoid</i>  hunching  your  back  so  you&#8217;re  over  your  knees  as  you  push  up.  This  will  get  the  butt  (gluteus  maximus)  and  hamstring  muscles  involved  for  a  outstanding  overall  leg  workout.  Keep  the  rock  forward  nice  and  tame  to  refrain from  having  too  much  instinctive  help  you  up  (again,  you  want  your  muscle  to  work  as  much  as  possible).  Remember,  your  arms  and  other  leg  will have to  be  kept  in  front  of  you  all around  the  motion  and  your  planted  shin  must  be  as  vertical  as  possible.</p>

There  are  a  number  of  intensive  bodyweight  exercises  that  you  may  use  to  fabricate  your  own  intensive  fat  burning  workout  at  home.  In  this  article  I&#8217;ll  share  with  you  a great deal of  of  these  exercises  and  how  I  use  them  to  fabricate  my  own  home  workout  for  uttermost  fat  burning.  By  the  way,  this  takes  minutes  to  do  so  check  it  out&#8230;</p>
<p>1.  Start  with  a  short  warm  up  to  get  your  muscles  into  the  flow  and  bump  your  heart  rate  up  a  bit.  Warming  up  is  exceedingly  necessary  so  don&#8217;t  try  to  save  time  by  not  doing  it.  This  is  very  crucial  for  your  health.</p>
<p>2.  You  may  begin  the  actual  workout  with  a heap of  squats  and  jumps.  Go  into  a  squat  and  genuinely  feel  those  thighs  straining.  Rise  from  the  squat  and  jump  up  while  bringing  your  hands  above  your  head  to  finish  the  motion.  Make  sure  to  wear  good  shoes  for  this  exercise.</p>
<p>3.  Move  onto  mountain  climbers  &#8211;  This  is  an  splendid  exercise  that  combines  cardio  and  strength.  Go  into  a  push-up  position.  Bring  one  leg  forward  and  place  that  foot  on  the  floor  closer  to  your  hands  so  that  it  would  appear  as  if  you&#8217;re  climbing  the  floor.  Begin  switching  legs  quickly  by  straightening  your  bent  leg  and  bringing  the  other  one  forward  in  it is  place.  Pretty  soon,  you&#8217;ll  feel  how  tough  this  workout  may  be.  I  doubt  you  may  keep  this  up  if  you  go  for  more  than  a  minute  or  two.  By  the  time  that  you  finish  this,  you  ought to  feel  like  you&#8217;ve  already  done  a  workout.</p>
<p>4.  Turn  your  body  so  that  you&#8217;re  facing  the  ceiling  and  supporting  yourself  on  your  hands  and  feet  with  your  buttocks  and  back  in  the  air.  Make  sure  your  feet  are  planted  strongly  on  the  ground.  Kick  out  with  one  leg  high  by  straightening  it  up  and  letting down  your  butt  a  bit  toward  the  floor  (without  letting  it  touch  the  floor).  Lower  that  foot  back  and  repeat  with  the  other  one.  This  is  an  amazing  abs  exercise  that  you  may  without apparent effort  do  at  home.  Try  to  do  as  some  as  you  may  but  don&#8217;t  feel  bad  if  you  can&#8217;t  do  a  lot.  It&#8217;s  actually  hard.</p>
<p>5.  Finish  off  this  workout  with  a  cool  down  by  doing  full  body  stretching.  Ease  the  tension  out  of  your  muscles  and  felicitate  yourself  on  doing  an  amazing  workout.</p>

<p>About  7  years  ago  I  was  watching  the  TV  show,  Survivor.  It  was  the  episode<br />
<br />they  filmed  in  Australia.  The  people  left  on  the  show  had  lost  a  lot  of  weight.<br />
<br />They  were  beauteous  much  starving  and  I  am  not  giving  this  example  to  say  that<br />
<br />people  ought to  starve.  What  I  noticed  was  that  each  an  each  contestant  on<br />
<br />Survivor  had  ripped  abs.  You  could  see  their  ripped  abs  in  detail,  due  to<br />
<br />lack  of  body  fat  on  their  mid  section.  None  of  these  contestants  were  working<br />
<br />their  abs,  yet  they  had  ripped  abs  that  most  gym  members  would  envy.</p>
<p><strong>Spend  More  Time  on  Cardio  and  Less  Time  Working  the  Abs<br />
<br />Directly.</strong></p>
<p>We  all  have  ripped  abs,  they  are  just  covered  underneath  body  fat  on  most<br />
<br />people.  The  best  way  to  burn  this  fat  is  to  do  cardio.  Crunches  and  leg  raises<br />
<br />will  work  the  ab  muscles  hard,  but  they  won&#8217;t  burn  off  an  ounce  of  fat  around<br />
<br />your  midsection.  I  would  commend  dropping  your  ab  exercises  totally  and<br />
<br />focus  on  cardio  until  you  get  to  a  low  body  fat  level  which  will  disclose  those<br />
<br />ripped  abs.</p>
<p><strong>It  is  Very  Possible  to  Get  Ripped  Abs  Without  Working  the  Abs<br />
<br />Directly.</strong></p>
<p>I  severely  injured  my  back  with regards to  6  months  before  a  trip  to  Cancun,  Mexico.  I<br />
<br />was  actually  bummed  out,  because  it  hurt  gravely  to  do  any  ab  exercises.  I  had  to<br />
<br />drop  ab  exercises  altogether  from  my  routine,  until  my  back  healed.  I  figured  if<br />
<br />I  got  my  body  fat  low,  then  my  abs  would  at  least  not  look  terrible.  To  make  a<br />
<br />long  story  short,  I  did  a  ton  of  cardio  for  those  6  months  and  my  abs  were<br />
<br />ultra-toned  for  the  vacation.  To  this  day,  I  don&#8217;t  to  any  direct  ab  work  and  my<br />
<br />abs  look  better  than  ever.</p>
<p><strong>Give  This  Approach  to  Ripped  Abs  a  Shot.</strong></p>
<p>I  recognise  that  some  humans  will  be  hesitant  to  drop  their  ab  work,  because<br />
<br />they  don&#8217;t  want  to  lose  any  muscle  tone  in  that  area.  All  I  have  to  say,  is  that<br />
<br />if  your  body  fat  portion  isn&#8217;t  low  sufficient  then  not anyone  is  going  to  see  that<br />
<br />tone  anyway.  Your  time  is  better  expended  on  cardio,  which  will  at long last  disclose<br />

<p>The  muscular  system  is  critical  to  the  humane  body.  It  is  important  from  the  point  of  view  that  it  helps  in  movement.  One  can&#8217;t  imagine  the  aftermaths  if  we  could  move  or  grow!  We  would,  in  all  probability  wouldn&#8217;t  have  existed  in  the  basi  place.  The  muscle  tissues  in  addition  in  making  us  move  are  even  more  crucial  due  to  the  following  characteristics.</p>
<p>1.  Excitability:  What  is  our  normal  reaction  when  we  touch  a  hot  plate?  We  without delay  withdraw  the  part  in  contact  with  the  hot  object.  This  is  known  as  stimulus  and  the  humane  body  is  programmed  to  respond  to  stimuli.  The  muscle  tissues  in  our  body  send  signals  to  the  brain  and  the  brain  tells  the  body  to  move  out  &#8211;  all  this  happens  within  a  fraction  of  a  second!  Had  this  taken  any  longer,  we  would  have  burnt  our  hands,  till  the  time  our  brain  told  us  to  remove  the  hand!</p>
<p>All  this  and  more  is  possible  because  of  the  excitability  function  of  the  muscle  tissues.</p>
<p>2.  Contractility:  In  simple  words,  our  muscles  may  contract.  One  might  question  the  need  for  our  muscles  to  contract.  If  our  muscles  wouldn&#8217;t  contract,  then  we  wouldn&#8217;t  be  competent  to  lift  things  or  sit.  The  folding  of  our  muscles  is  in truth  contraction  taking  place  and  this  is  the  body&#8217;s  distinctive  self-accommodating  system  that  helps  the  muscles  be  contained  within  the  same  frame  rather  than  tearing  out  for  space!</p>
<p>Also,  due  to  this  contraction,  a  power  is  invented  in  the  muscles  which  give  the  energy  to  carry out  strenuous  activities.</p>
<p>3.  Extensibility:  This  is  the  opposite  of  the  former  function.  There  has  to  be  a  similar  opposite  action  in  nature  and  that  is  best  shown  by  this  muscle  functioning.  After  the  muscle  contracts,  it  will have to  extend  to  release  the  energy  which  it  had  stored  while  contraction.</p>
<p>Think  of  it  as  when  we  stretch  and  when  we  pull  things  &#8211;  without  muscle  extension,  it  would  not  have  been  possible.  Also,  extension  of  the  muscles  helps  growth  and  is  somewhat  indirectly  affiliated  to  control  of  the  body  temperature  (both  contraction  and  extension  in  pair).</p>
<p>4.  Elasticity:  If  our  muscles  weren&#8217;t  elastic,  we  would  have  been  longer  and  taller  with  each  extension!  Think  of  the  phenomena  as  a  rubber  band  &#8211;  it  is  elastic  to  a  sure  limit,  beyond  which,  it  breaks.  Similarly,  our  muscles  stretch  to  a  sure  limit  without  injury  and  then  come  back  to  it is  introductory  shape  and  size.  Elasticity  of  muscle  fibers  is  exceedingly  important.</p>
<p>5.  Conductivity:  The  muscle  tissues  in  our  body  conduct  ion  interchange  and  help  carry  electrical  impulses  from  the  brain  and  nerves  to  the  body  elements  and  vice-versa.  This  is  achieved  by  the  muscles  preserving  a  steady  electrical  field  which  facilitates  the  motion  of  charged  ions.</p>
<p>MMA  workouts  will  help  maintain  the  above  brought up  characteristics  of  the  muscle  tissues  and  keep  you  in  good  health.</p>

Every single &#8220;healthy&#8221; food you can probably think of is listed in this book (with the exception of milk, which supposedly might be a cause of acne) and none are really elevated as better than any of the others. Fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes&#8230; remember them, all those foods that have been marketed as healthy for ages? Yeah, well, not only are they healthy overall, but turns out they are also healthy for your skin. Not really much of a shocker. So, unless you didn&#8217;t know that fruit was good for you, you&#8217;re unlikely to be surprised by what you read in this book. The only two surprising foods that she mentioned were maple syrup and dark chocolate&#8230; and if I had been following health news a little more closely, the chocolate wouldn&#8217;t have surprised me either. </span></p>

I am 43 and look quite young for my age, and I am very interested in preserving my skin as I grow older, so I was excited to read this book. It was a disappointment &#8211; I didn&#8217;t learn anything new (just a basic rehashing of standard beauty magazine advice, really) accompanied by a lot of recipes I would either never make or are so basic that I didn&#8217;t need a recipe.  It does provide the basic info that is currently available regarding anti-aging foods, but nothing you couldn&#8217;t find by leafing through Vogue or any of the &#8220;healthy living&#8221; magazines.</span></p>
