At Last!!!

After trying about a thousand anti-aging face creams (OK, maybe it was ten), I finally found one that really works and doesn’t irritate my skin. Relastin feels great going on, and I like that you can feel it firming and tightening right away. After about 10 days you can see a significant reduction in the lines and wrinkles on your face and neck, and at a month you’ll think you were using a time machine instead of a face cream. Use it with a good moisturizer and your favorite sunblock.

This is a good and effective cream for creating smoother and firmer skin. It feels good going on and tightens your pores, creating a smooth feel and look. Use it with a moisturizer on top. Even though it is a little expensive, a little actually goes a long way. I actually felt that my skin felt firmer after 10 days.

Skin 101

Along with the rest of the body, humane skin has evolved over roughly 7,500 generations, give or take a few. These genetically driven changes have been fueled over the millennia by selection for what is optimal for one thing and one thing only: sex.

Yes, that’s right: sex, as in humane reproduction.

Biologically speaking, skin has the same uttermost aim as the rest of the humane body: contributing to the continuance of the species. As a result, the genes that were passed down to you and everyone you know are the good ones that formulated healthful and glowing skin, protected the body, and, most of all, attracted a mate. The bad skin genes that caused disease, weakened the individual, and turned off potential collaborators didn’t get passed on and were at last lost from the gene pool.

This was proven by a recent study at the University of California, Santa Barbara, which found that women may tell apart those men with higher testosterone levels and select those with high paternal quality and those who specially like infants just by looking at photographs of the men’s faces.

THE SKIN YOU’RE IN
Your skin is a whole lot more than an inert overcoat, or something you might think of as cellular Saran wrap. It’s a living thing-the biggest organ of your body and one that changes dynamically over the course of your lifetime.
Like most organs, skin has two main layers: the dermis, the thick layer on the bottom; and the epidermis, the thin layer of cells on the surface above.

The living dermis is primarily comprised of cells called fibroblasts. These fibroblasts are surrounded by collagen and elastin fibers to form the stretchy supporting structure of the skin. The dermis is also infused with blood vessels to supply nutrients and take away waste, as well as nerves for exquisitely delicate sensation. Hair and oil and sweat glands are all anchored in the dermis and poke or wind their way out to the surface.

Perched on top of the dermis is the epidermis, a layer no more than regarding twenty cells deep. The cells making up this layer are called keratinocytes. They divide rapidly, but they only grow up, never down. As a result, whenever a keratinocyte divides, the newer cell is always on top. Think of this routine as if the bottom cells are the grandmothers, and they divide into daughter cells that in turn divide into a new generation of daughter cells. All this continual division pushes the daughters, the granddaughters, and great-granddaughters up to the surface. It takes when it comes to two weeks for newly devised daughter cells to be pushed to the surface, where they’re sloughed off.

The very outermost layers of skin are stacked atop one another like shingles on a roof. After all the daughter cells finish dividing and reach the top of the skin surface, they flatten out, creating an intercellular cement mixture where ceramides and other lipids connect them to one another. Ceramides are lipids, a type of oil chemical. Each ceramide molecule has two ends, and each end may bind to other chemicals so that a long chain, or mesh, is formed. This network of mesh is what binds the flattened cells together to become the part of the outer skin barrier known as the stratum corneum.

The stratum corneum is basically dead skin cells, but it still serves an exceedingly critical function: preventing water from escaping from the skin. Without the barrier of the stratum corneum, necessary water would evaporate from your body like steam from a boiling kettle, and you would arid up like a raisin in a few hours. The stratum corneum barrier also keeps out invaders, like deadly bacteria and viruses. The barrier function of the stratum corneum is in a literal sense a matter of life and death.

During the entire routine of forming the dermis, epidermis, and stratum corneum, skin cells undergo a remarkable, genetically programmed transformation. Our genetic code, which exists in our DNA, tells our cells what to do. This is the DNA program.

The DNA program is like a computer program-a series of instructions with regards to what to do and when to do it, intended to be performed in an orderly fashion. A person’s DNA program tells a cell when to make things or how to act, as well as how to change what it is doing as it gets older or how to react when it gets info from other cells.

As in a computer program, if a DNA instruction is changed, the cell behaves differently. If the cell gets signals from damaged skin, or by the inevitable aging procedure itself, it may follow a new course of steps that are destructive to the skin. However, if we introduce particular ingredients that give out new signals, we may reprogram the cell to modify it is course of development and alter it is function. This transformation, which is directed by selective information coded in the humane genome, is the key to the New Skin-Care Revolution.

HOW SKIN CHANGES AS YOU AGE
Until now, aging was finelooking much a steady downhill slide. • Collagen degrades
• Chronic inflammation flares

Further, the underlying fat that gives us such delicious chubby cheeks as children is absorbed, so faces look more gaunt, the bones thin, and the muscles supporting the skin weaken. Then gravity takes over and jowls form, lips thin, cheekbones jut out, earlobes sag, noses seem to grow longer, and tiny blood vessels all of a sudden appear on the skin’s surface.

Extrinsic aging is caused by elements you may control. This includes the excessive damage and destruction effects of the sun upon skin, called photoaging. Photoaging is without question the greatest extrinsic element affecting your skin, causing it to get thick, rough, wrinkled, mottled, flaky, saggy, and covered with spots and uneven pigmentation. I may tell persons till I’m blue in the face that there’s no such thing as a healthful tan-but getting them to act like it is another issue altogether! Photoaging is the easiest extrinsic factor you may control, and it’s never too late to start out protecting your skin from the sun.

How to protect yourself from photoaging and the effects of the sun is so important that I’ve consecrated an entire chapter to it. Chapter 6 is a primer on photoaging, sunscreen and sun protection, and DNA fix and is without doubt the most crucial chapter in the book.

Other extrinsic constituents are smoking, poor nutrition, stress, not getting sufficient sleep, and in frequent taking your skin for granted. The temptation is to play today and pay tomorrow, but it’s never too early to begin protecting your skin-now.

AGING IN THE CHILDBEARING YEARS
Of all the stages of life, the childbearing years put the greatest strain on the body and the skin. Once a woman has reached the peak of her health and attractiveness, she is now subjected to the toughest challenge of all-preparing for and giving birth to children. During this time, sensitivity to sun and irritants increments just as the harm collected from the childhood years begins to appear. On top of that, in the thirties, the production of skin lipids begins to decline, weakening the skin barrier.

I was very excited when I discovered this book. Finally a book about skincare not written by a dermatologist or a plastic surgeon! Unfortunately by the end of reading the book I was just disappointed and slightly confused.

Helpful information on skin care

This book offers some good information on how to take care of your skin, from what you eat to what products to use.

I like that the author offers specific ingredients for which he believes there is scientific support for their effectiveness, and he also offers his thoughts on what ingredients are mere unproven hype.

I also like that he mentions specific products that he believes are effective, such as Neutrogena Make-Up Remover Cleansing Towlettes. Readers considering the book should also be aware that he has a brand of products he sells and those products are featured in the book as well.

There were some inconsistent comments in the book, like he starts one chapter by saying, “Cleansers and toners are the least glamorous products in the cosmetic cabinet but are the true workhorses of skin care.” But then later in that same chapter, he says, “Whatever toners are called, and whatever their intended use, chances are very slim–unless you are using natural soaps and have hard water–that you need one.” ???

Also, he notes at one point that you should steer clear of products that advertise they are “preservative free.” I understand the point – those products can spoil more quickly – but if you’re willing to pay attention to expiration dates, I think preservative-free products are still okay to use. It’s really a matter of personal preference.

In any event, I thought the author offered some good advice on steps to take and products to use to achieve radiant skin.

I drink this brand of Jasmine Green Tea every single day at work. The lower level of caffeine eases me awake as opposed to giving me coffee-jitters. Green tea is extremely good for you and also happens to taste amazing! I recommend this to anyone. It also makes a great iced tea for a different twist.

The Jasmine flavor is weak when you make an 8 ounce cup brewed for 3 minutes. Brew longer and it turns bitter. For me, the best Jasmine tea in bags is Jasmine Green, Organic Monkey King by NUMI.

This tea is awesome. I had it in a restaurant once and tore off the little label and came home trying to find it on the internet. After finding it on Amazon, I looked up all the benefits of green tea, and realized that original green tea is kind of disgusting. Barely Discernible Results

Since my own skin is picture perfect and virtually impossible to improve, Mrs. Spudman agreed to try the Neutrogena Clinical Lifting System on her own face. I was an interested observer, photographer, and interviewer. At the beginning of the trial I took six close up photographs of the subject’s face to compare to her face after treatment.

Some thoughts of the volunteer subject:
“The product felt luxurious going on and seemed to make my face look smoother immediately after application.
Using three separate tubes is too much bother considering the final results.”
“I don’t like doing the Neutrogena treatment at night because some nights I’m just too tired and not in the mood.” A true statement.

“The first tube and the second tube felt good on the skin. Unfortunately by the next morning the effects were gone”

Invariably one tube is going to run out before the others. This happened to “us.”

After a little over three weeks, I took follow up photographs of the same face on the same subject and compared the second set of pictures to the first set. I also compared the first set of photographs to the actual face post treatment.

Our conclusion – Very little if any difference or improvement was perceived after studying the photographs and the subjects face. We won’t be buying this product unless it goes on sale for half price. Then maybe.

No visible results after one month of use

Now in my early 40s, I am lucky enough to have no major problems with wrinkles so far, although of course, some aging is beginning to show. However, I was mainly interested in this Starter System for the inclusion of an Eye product. I struggle with dark under eye circles, and according to the box, the eye cream included in this kit is “clinically proven” to produce “noticeable improvement” in reducing puffiness and dark circles by the end of one week; by the end of four weeks, these results are supposed to increase to “significantly noticeable.”

So, I began using this system about a month prior to my 42nd birthday. There are three total products: 1) a serum, which is supposed to be applied over the face, neck, and entire eye area, 2) an activating cream, also designed to be applied over the entire face and neck, and 3) an eye activating cream, designed to be used around the entire eye area. The instructions did not specify exactly when to apply the products, but because the activating cream was labeled “Day” and contained SPF, I choose to use this regimen in the A.M. only.

Here were my initial impressions:
The serum comes out of the tube a medium gray color, which seems a bit odd at first, but it does disappear into the skin. It has a silky feel but seems to be easily absorbed. The activating cream has a light, pleasant scent (it fades fairly quickly for those who don’t like scented items); the cream itself is fairly rich, but again, it is absorbed quickly. The eye cream, on the other other hand, is significantly thinner, which was unexpected (I would have thought it would be the other way around). I preferred the pumps of the two creams to the serum’s tube.

WHAT I LIKED:
All three products seemed to absorb into my skin well, and they didn’t leave my oily-prone skin feeling greasy (although I used the products during the spring; it may have been different in the summer). Similarly, I didn’t seem to break out any more often than normal while using this system. My skin generally felt fairly smooth and looked decent in appearance for the duration that I sampled this kit, although I did get some dryness around my mouth towards the end of the month.

WHAT I DIDN’T LIKE:
First, I began running out of the serum before the other two products. I emailed the Neutrogena web site, and they replied to say that I could continue using the other two products alone and still see “some effects.” But this leads to my second complaint: I didn’t see ANY noticeable effects! Yes, my skin generally felt soft, but no more so than from using any good moisturizer. I certainly would not say that I saw improved skin tone/minimized signs of discoloration or improvement in fine lines/wrinkles, both of which are supposedly “clinically proven” to be “noticeable results” after just one week (and should have been even more pronounced after a full month). Similarly, I can’t say that I saw any of the other claimed benefits of this system, such as lifting the look of sagging skin and improving the look of facial contours/and definition.

So, in the end, the BEST that I can say about this Starter Kit is that it seemed to act as a decent moisturizer during the time I used it (about a month, which is how long the products lasted). But there is no way I can recommend paying this much for a set of three products that promises so much more; there are certainly better and less expensive moisturizers out there.

Best EVER (for me)

I have very dry, very sensitive skin. This is the only product I have found that works well for me. It is truly fragrance free. I have rosacea and I am allergic to fragrance. So many cremes that say they do not contain any fragrance have essential oils or other products with strong scents that I react to. This product doesn’t have anything that I react to at all. A miracle! And as a bonus it doesn’t smell icky either. A lot of fragrance-free products have an unpleasant non-smell to them.

Eucerin also makes a formula for redness in your skin. I thought this would be good for the rosecea. It is NOT. This Q10 formula is the BEST!!!

It is thick and creamy. If you have oily skin at all this is not the right product for you. For those with dry skin or who need additional moisture at night this is a great product.

I was horrified when I couldn’t find it in the stores any longer. Thank goodness I can still get it here!!!!

The above review was written for this product on a page that would not let me update. It must have been the single jar section before I signed up for the double order….anyway here is my update.

It has been 2 years and I still use this product daily. I have never had any allergic reactions to this creme. That may not sound like much but for me it really is. Over time I have had reactions to quite a few products that are advertised for people with sensitive skin. Some have even taken a few months before I to react to them. This creme is still the best thing I have found for really dry, really sensitive skin. Even on my worst day when everything feels hurtful to my skin this creme does not. I rarely wear make up any longer, never wear mascara, can only find one or two products I can use on my lips. I can’t imagine what I will do if they ever stop making this product.

It is very thick. If your skin is mildly dry then perhaps it would be best for a night creme only. I use it day and night but my skin is really very dry. I have used products that cost 6 times as much that didn’t do what this one does for me. Even the most expensive sensitive skin creams do not work as well as this one. …for me. As for the creme’s anti-wrinkle properties, I don’t have a lot of problems with wrinkles. I am not sure if it is genetics or using this creme for 2 years or both. Either way I’m not complaining.

This face cream is apparently from the same manufacturer that markets the Nivea Visage line of face creams. For some reason, Nivea is no longer available in the USA. I bought the Eucerin cream to to replace the Nivea Anti-Wrinkle/Toning cream that is no longer available. It doesn’t even come close. Nivea was smooth and packed with moisturizers. The Eucerin is more pasty (not creamy) in texture and comes in a less than attractive yellow color. It does not moisturize as well. Why Nivea is gone and this is still here is puzzling.

Great cream for any time of day

I suffer from many skin allergies with creams that contain perfume and/or have any kind of sunscreen.
All creams except for this one will cause symptoms like breaking out, rashes, severe dryness associated
with itching with them. Since I have been using the Q10 for years now and my skin always feels so fresh
and well nurtured. I absolutely love it!!!!!
Believe me, I have been spending so much money on expensive creams, creams that proclaim to be just for
sensitive skin, and creams that claims to be dermatologically tested, yet the only one that I do not have
any skin problems with is this Eucerin Q10.
